Pedreana claims G3 Glenlogan Park Stakes

Pedrena wins the Glenlogan Stakes.
Melbourne jockey Michael Dee has found instant success at Doomben, winning a stakes race on Pedrena.

Jockey Michael Dee put the Doomben track dramas behind him to produce a flawless winning ride aboard Pedrena in the Group Three Glenlogan Park Stakes (1350m).

Taking full advantage of the rails barrier, Dee had Pedrena ($10) travelling smoothly behind the leader Schism before sprinting to the lead at the 150m.

Pedrena held off a late challenge from Invincibella, the $3.60 favourite, to win by three quarters of a length.

The Glenlogan was put back an hour and 19 minutes after jockeys became concerned with the state of the track following the fall of Mischievousmarilyn in the Sires, one race earlier.

After the movable rail was shifted out a further two metres, stewards gave the all-clear for the meeting to proceed.

“While they worked on the track there wasn’t much to do so I just sat on the floor in the jockeys room and basically did nothing until it was time to take our rides,” Dee said.

It was Dee’s first day of riding at Doomben, answering a call from trainer Mick Price to ride Pedrena.

“Despite everything the track felt pretty good overall although it was a bit roughed up on the first corner,” he said.

“My mare travelled beautifully though and towed herself into the race coming to the home turn.

“Although I was a bit worried the going mightn’t be as good near the fence she was happy to be there so I let her take me where she wanted to go and she showed a great turn of foot.”

Dee and Price combined to win the Group One Vinery Stud Stakes with Hiyaam during the Sydney autumn carnival.

Pedrena’s main goal during the winter carnival is the Group One Tatt’s Tiara (1350m) at Doomben on June 23.
