MELBOURNE Cup winning jockey Michelle Payne has been stood down by racing stewards after returning a positive test for banned substance Phentermine.

Phentermine – an appetite suppressant and banned substance under Australian Rule of Racing guidelines section 81B – was found in Payne’s system following the Swan Hill Cup meeting which was ran on June 11, 2017.

Ms Payne was advised of the positive sample and was subsequently stood down from riding in races and track work by Stewards on 23 June, 2017.

Payne, who is best known for her breakthrough Melbourne Cup win aboard Prince Of Penzance in 2015, will front an inquiry at 11am on Thursday, June 29.
