Paul Carberry retires with injury
Dual champion Irish jumps jockey Paul Carberry has been forced into retirement because of an ongoing issue with a leg injury.
Carberry won the 1999 Grand National on Bobbyjo and was a 14-time winner at the famous Cheltenham festival.
The 42-year-old has not ridden competitively since he fractured his left in a fall last September.
“I saw my surgeon today and he advised me to stop. My leg’s not strong enough. I feel gutted,” Carberry told the Press Association.
Carberry singled out his Grand National triumph on Bobbyjo, trained by his father Tommy, as the undoubted centrepiece of his career which began with his first winner in 1990.
