Pakenham night racing preview

The first night meeting at Pakenham for the season gives us eight races to get involved in before the Caulfield Cup meeting on Saturday afternoon. With rain forecasted from Thursday night onwards, the Soft 6 looks set to remain, and a further downgrade may come during the meeting. The rail is in the true position as racing returns to the turf at Pakenham for the first time since April 30. The first race is set to jump at 5:15pm AEDT.

Best BetRace 4 – Fixated (#7) $3.90 with Sportsbet

This former NSW-based 3YO gelding has seemingly found his worth down south. He is still a maiden after seven starts, but he has not been beaten by over a length and a half in any of his last four starts. He settled midfield last time out at The Valley and missed in a driving go, and he looks well placed here to get his maiden win for the Dabernig & Hayes team. Daniel Stackhouse should have no issue in getting him into a positive position from barrier eight, and his race experience may prove pivotal with plenty of first starters in the field.

Next BestRace 8 – Fundraiser (#7) $3.50 with Sportsbet

It could be a profitable Friday night at Pakenham for the Daniel Stackhouse and Dabernig & Hayes combination. They combine in the final event on the card with a 4YO gelding who has always been well supported in all four career starts. He got the job done when first up last campaign over track and distance, and the connections think it’s the way to go for his 4YO stint.

Best ValueRace 5 – Space Cowboy (#7) $11 with Sportsbet

The Snowden team must have been happy to see this 4YO gelding break through for his maiden win three weeks ago at Benalla. He had shown promising signs in previous campaigns, and this time he got the job done on rain-affected ground first up. He will need a bit of luck in the early stages after drawing a wide barrier, but he rates highly with Michael Rodd on board again in what looks a wide-open affair for the opening leg of the quaddie.
