Pakenham races preview and free quaddie tip for Thursday, June 8

Charlton wins at Sandown

THE Thursday quaddie returns to its spiritual home of Pakenham after a day-trip last week to rural Victoria.

Last week we had no luck from the outset as long shot roughies burnt quaddies around the country to the ground, so we are looking forward to heading back to Pakenham.

This week we spread our net a little wider after getting narrowly beaten in previous Pakenham quaddies, and we are confident we have the right formula this week.

Race six on the card at Pakenham is the Trik Trailers benchmark 64, which kicks off the quaddie at 3pm.

Race 6 – Trik Trailers BM64 (2200m)

Three-year-old colt Charlton gets its chance to win its third race from four starts on Thursday. Two weeks ago at the same venue and across the same distance the Robbie Griffiths-trained horse saluted easily. A win on Thursday would see the horse maintain an unbeaten run across course and distance.

Bogong Road is looking to go back-to-back after a sensational win at Geelong just under a month ago. This will be the horse’s first attempt at the 2200m journey but there is no reason to think it will not run the trip out.

Euroman brings terrific form into this race. The Weir-trained four-year-old has not missed a placing in its last four starts and was an impressive winner two weeks ago at Geelong. A win on Thursday would make it two wins from two starts over the 2200m trip.

Race 7 – Cardina Shire BM64 (1400m)

Perfect Command has featured in our quaddies before and rarely does the three-year-old let us down. Across four starts it has never missed a placing. Runs second up today and will benefit from the stretch out it got two weeks ago.

Crisis Point is an ultra-consistent five-year-old which has been racing in quality form recently. Upon resumption at Moe on May 25 the gelding came third of 12 runners and looks to have come back in great order.

Global Rocket looks to be the class runner of the field. The three-year-old won for the first time easily on May 18 and while its stepping out of maiden grade, it looks to be a progressive type.

Race 8 – 2017-18 Memberships On Sale BM64 (1400m)

Thumbtacks is a runner that is closer to the end of its career than the beginning but still has plenty of quality runs left in the tank. The 10-year-old has a lot of experience at Pakenham that it can draw upon and will be right in the mix.

October Tutu has been racing in glittering form recently. Two weeks ago in a class one the three-year-old was unlucky to miss out behind Let’s Go To Rio. The wide barrier is a slight concern but if it gets into a good position early it will be hard to hold out.

Three-year-old filly Zolani is third up on Thursday and looks ready to win. The Maher-trained runner has a wonderful winning strike rate early in its career of 33 percent. It has barrier 11 to contend with, but has the class to overcome.

Race 8 quaddie tips: 2, 5 and 7

Race 9 – Sportsbet Racing Form BM70 (1200m)

Spearhead is racing second up on Thursday, a point in previous preparations where it has won before. The four-year-old was nosed out two weeks ago from recording an impressive win by bolter Valrouz, and we are expecting the gelding to go on further from that run.

Streetshavenoname has won previously for us in our Pakenham quaddie and the recent form is good enough to warrant including the six-year-old again. A last start fifth does not make for spectacular reading, but it was less than two-and-a-half lengths from the leader, and before that had won twice and placed second across four runs. Will be right in contention.

Conspicuous Maid is third up on Thursday, where it has won twice from three attempts. The last start fifth at Moe belied how good the run was considering it was within two lengths of the eventual winner. Will be hard to hold out from barrier four and should take some beating.
