Champion jockey Damien Oliver has lost a reckless riding appeal that rules him out of the spring carnival until Melbourne Cup day.

The Racing Appeals and Disciplinary Board on Friday dismissed Oliver’s appeal against his reckless riding charge and upheld the 20-meeting suspension for his ride in Wednesday’s Blue Sapphire Stakes.

Oliver had tried to have the ban reduced to 17 meetings so he could ride at the Victoria Derby meeting on October 29.
