NZ colt Saracino in Caulfield Guineas bid

New Zealand trainers Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman have another Melbourne spring carnival contender with Saracino confirming an Australian mission.

The colt booked his trans-Tasman trip for a tilt at the Caulfield Guineas with victory against older horses in Saturday’s Group Two Foxbridge Plate at Te Rapa.

Saracino is owned by Lib Petagne who has already won the Australian Oaks with Sofia Rosa and Queen Elizabeth Stakes with Lucia Valentina this year in Sydney.

“We want to get him to Australia and a race like this has given us a good line on where he’s at,” Forsman told NZ Racing Desk.

“We’ve always known he had the ability and it was nice to see him get to the front and keep going and not prick his ears and pull up.”

Baker and Forsman enjoyed Group One success last spring in Melbourne with Mongolian Khan in the Caulfield Cup and Turn Me Loose in the Emirates Stakes.

Turn Me Loose returned in the autumn to win the Futurity Stakes.
