Not Enough Effort right to go at Sandown

Brian Park again rides Not Enough Effort at Sandown as he tries to maintain his perfect record.

Not Enough Effort will attempt to extend his unbeaten run to three with a second visit to Sandown.

A debut winner on his home track at Sale, Not Enough Effort was taken to Sandown on Easter Monday where he accounted for older horses at benchmark 64 level.

Not Enough Effort returns to three-year-old company in Wednesday’s Blue Star Print Handicap (1000m) in which he will again be ridden by Brian Park.

“The only reason I went to Sandown last time was because of this race,” trainer Sharyn Trolove said.

“There was a race I thought he’d win at Sale a week later, but if I’d run at Sale then he wouldn’t be going to this race. It would have been too soon.”

How far Not Enough Effort progresses beyond Wednesday will be determined by his performance.

Trolove said the three-year-old had been in work since October and deserved a break.

His preparation has been longer than planned after Not Enough Effort needed a stint of barrier education with jockey-turned-trainer, Nathan Dunn.

“There’s a couple of races about but he has been up for a long time and I’m leaning towards giving him a little bit of a freshen up depending on how he pulls up,” Trolove said.

“He had a fair few issues with the barriers before he raced so that has prolonged his preparation.

“His biggest issue was when he was locked in the barriers, he wanted to get out of there and not wait.

“He was very impatient but he’d stand in there all day now, but when he gets behind the barriers for his trials or races, he gets a little wound up and decides he doesn’t want to go in.

“That’s why he has a blindfold on just to eliminate that problem.”

Trolove has not had to do a lot with Not Enough Effort since his latest success.

“He’s done some slow work and had one gallop,” Trolove said.

“He’s very fit and keeps improving after every race.

“He seems extremely well, he’s drawn well and everything’s good to go.”
