Nolen set for August return to riding

Champion hoop Luke Nolen is aiming for an August return to racing after rehabilitation for his injuries.

Nolen hasn’t been back in the saddle since he fell while riding Miss Promiscuity in the Robert Sangster Stakes during the Adelaide carnival.

Nolen suffered eight fractured ribs and a fractured shoulder in the fall.

The jockey, most famous for his partnership with champion mare Black Caviar and association with the now defunct Peter Moody stable says his rehab is going well.

“The first week of August is the plan (to return to race riding) and at this stage I’ve got no reason to think that’s not achievable,” Nolen told RSN.

“I had an appointment with the physio on Tuesday and I’ll probably do a lot more physio over the next couple of weeks with a view to returning to trackwork towards the middle of next month.

“I had a swim on Tuesday as part of my rehabilitation and I’m a bit sore this morning but I’m taking some positive steps.”

Nolen is also adamant that while his most significant partnership was with Moody he can still be a success without the trainer.

“I received great support from a number of trainers, some of which I hadn’t ridden for in a while, so I’m not disappointed because I know I can get back to that form without the support of Pete (Moody).”
