Noble Hussler upsets Toowoomba 2YO plunge

A betting move for filly Girl In A Million came unstuck when Noble Hussler caused an upset at Toowoomba on Saturday.

As much as $4.20 was bet about Girl In A Million before she shortened to $1.80 in the Moore Trailers Handicap.

However, after being unsettled in the barriers Girl In A Million went to the lead but was taken on by Ruby Red Heart before folding to finish second last.

Noble Hussler ($15) finished strongly to beat Skate To Paris ($21) with Beach Drum ($21) in third place.

A $70,000 yearling by Husson, Noble Hussler is raced by a syndicate headed by trainer Liam Birchley’s biggest client Mark McLean.

Birchley has had an opinion of Noble Hussler who was a close-up sixth at his first start at Doomben two weeks ago.

“I think there is still improvement left in him. He showed a bit of character today and it was a good strong win,” Birchley said.

“I think on his breeding and the way he races he should get up to 1600 metres.”

He said he would press on to the winter with Noble Hussler but would not commit him to anything too serious until he showed further improvement.

Trainer Chris Munce was thrilled with the run of Skate To Paris who ran home strongly along the fence.

“We will head into the winter now looking for longer races. But as I have said before I think she could eventually be an Oaks filly,” Munce said.
