NJC 3YO Spring Stakes betting preview

Outside of The Hunter, this is one of the features at Newcastle for the track’s showcase race day. Run over a mile at Group 3 level, the race has attracted a field of 12 three-year-olds. Perfect Radiance will jump the favourite from Ellsberg and Real Peace. Those three look to be the speed influences in the race as well.

Perfect Radiance looks to have a bit of ability, and we see no reason why she can’t put this field to the sword. Having won two of four, she looked in for a fair campaign when last prep culminated with a fourth to Peltzer. She should be very fit third up now, and the Avdulla/Lees combination looks handy enough to get everything out of this filly. She’ll box seat from barrier six and could well blow this lot away.

Real Peace won his maiden at Hawkesbury two starts back very well before running third in the Bondi Stakes last start at a mile, 3L off Peltzer. He only needs to replicate that form to be competitive here. Being by Japanese stallion Real Impact, he is likely to improve on a dry track and should get a nice run from barrier three under Tom Sherry. He’ll be in it for a long way.

We highlighted Red Stiletto on Tuesday at Gosford as a special before finding out she was just there for a final tune-up run in preparation for this. From a very astute stable, we have faith that she will handle the backup and be fit enough to finish strong here. She did finish last in the Bondi Stakes prior, so she’ll need to improve to beat Real Peace, but we suspect the good track will suit.
