Nikolic in bid to regain riding licence

Controversial jockey Danny Nikolic is trying to regain his riding licence, four years after being disqualified from racing.

Nikolic’s appeal begins on Monday in the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal and has been set down for five days.

A Caulfield Cup-winning jockey, Nikolic was disqualified from racing in September 2012 for two years for threatening Racing Victoria chief steward Terry Bailey at a Seymour race meeting.

He incurred a further penalty for offensive conduct towards another steward outside a VCAT appeal.

Nikolic’s bid to regain his riding licence comes after he successfully challenged a police order banning him from Victorian racecourses.

A Victorian Supreme Court judge in June ruled the police exclusion order was not made in accordance with the law because Nikolic was not provided with details of adverse allegations against him.

Police are appealing that ruling in the Court of Appeal.
