Nick Olive expecting nothing short of a win with Fox Tales

CANBERRA-based trainer Nick Olive wasn’t mixing his words when assessing the chances of Fox Tales this Sunday.

The quality three-year-old resumes after an eight-month injury enforced break, but there will be no excuses for not winning the Great Southern Inn Handicap this Sunday according to Olive.

“We expect him to win there to be honest,” Olive told HorseBetting.com.au. “On paper he looks the winner.”

The son of Foxwedge hasn’t run since finishing sixth behind Eckstein at Rosehill, but its form prior included easy back-to-back victories and Olive expects a strong showing come Sunday.

“He’s going super and he’s working nicely. He had a little strain in his high suspensory ligament, so we needed to give him time to get over that,” Olive said.

“He’s going really well at home leading into this.”

Fox Tales will face only seven rivals in the $20,000 race at Sapphire Coast and the big weight of 62kg will be negated by the 4kg claim from apprentice jockey Patrick Scorse.

“It looks a winnable race and hopefully the kid steers him around alright and everything goes well,” Olive said.

Olive hasn’t put pen to paper on any future plans for the spring, but believes he does have a handy horse on his hands.

“I just want to get through Sunday and then work it out from there,” Olive said.

“He does have ability, but I want to see how he comes back.

“I haven’t got anything locked in, so we’ll see how Sunday goes and then I’ll start making plans for him.”
