Newcastle racing preview
Newcastle gets its feature Saturday this weekend with the running of the $1 million TAB Hunter. The track is rated a Good 4, and the rail is in the true position for all nine races. Race 1 jumps at 1:05pm local time, with the feature facing the starter at 4:45pm.
Race 5 – Super (#13)Mark Minervini’s five-year-old gelding lines up over a mile in a bid to make it three consecutive wins. His last two wins have been in dominant fashion at this track, including 5L and 2.5L rompings. Tom Sherry has ridden him both times and rides again here, utilising his 2kg claim well. He maps well from gate nine and should be too good for horses that are notorious non-winners.
Race 9 – Two Big Fari (#14)Country galloper Two Big Fari gets his chance against city class horses in the last race of the day. He was one of the fancied runners in The Kosciusko, where he finished fifth to the talented Its Me. He’ll be fit second up and the trial between runs should see him fully wound up. His record speaks for itself, and the booking of Brenton Avdulla is a plus. Follow this big horse in the autumn.
Race 8 – Saas Fee (#11)Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou saddle up Saas Fee in a race with a bit of depth. She was an eye catcher first up when second to Intrepidacious, before running well at Rosehill on a Heavy 9 track two weeks ago. Back on to a good track will help drastically, as will the rise in trip to 1400m. She showed plenty of ability early in her career and could be too good for these.
