New chairman for Melbourne Racing Club

Peter Le Grand will be the Melbourne Racing Club’s new chairman from the start of the new season, succeeding Mike Symons.

Le Grand has been a member of the MRC since 1994. He joined the committee in 2005 and has been vice chairman since 2010.

“On behalf of my fellow committee members, I’d like to express our gratitude to Mike for his leadership, friendship, vision and hard work over such a period,” Le Grand said in a statement.

“I am honoured to be chosen to be chairman and I very much look forward to leading our great club and working with industry colleagues to advance racing in this state.”

A former insurance executive, Le Grand also spent 33 years as a radio sports broadcaster.

He was inducted to the Melbourne Cricket Club Media Hall of Fame in 2013 and has won several AFL and Radio Industry Media Awards.

Roger Donazzan assumes the role of vice chairman having been on the committee for nine years.

Le Grand begins as chairman on August 1 ahead of this year’s Caulfield Cup carnival in October.
