Music Magnate wins Group 1 Doomben 10,000
Bjorn Baker has landed the first Group One win out of his Sydney stable with Music Magnate beating the favourite Azkadellia in the Doomben 10,000.
Continuing a break-out season for the son of leading New Zealand trainer Murray Baker, Music Magnate sat off a fast tempo before staking his claim under jockey Kerrin McEvoy.
“It’s been a great season. I had a couple of good seasons with Murray, the only difference of course is I got no money,” Baker said.
McEvoy completed the Doomben Cup-Doomben 10,000 double after winning last week on Our Ivanhowe.
“As Bjorn said before the race this is going to be a game of chess on horseback,” McEvoy said.
“But it unfolded completely different to how I thought it would. I thought I would be closer to the lead but I got a check about a hundred metres after the start.”
