Multiple G1 winner Alinghi dies aged 16

Multiple Group One winner Alinghi has died at Arrowfield Stud while giving birth to a foal which also did not survive.

The winner of the 2004 Blue Diamond stakes, the Lee Freedman-trained Alinghi was Australia’s champion three-year-old filly the following season for her wins in the Thousand Guineas, Robert Sangster Stakes and Newmarket Handicap.

She was bought by Arrowfield and sent to the United States where she won a Group Three race for the late Bobby Frankel.

Arrowfield brought her back to Australia for her stud career.

“Sad to announce our wonderful and much loved Alinghi died foaling” Arrowfield posted on Twitter.

Alinghi produced six live foals, five of them fillies including one by Japanese champion Deep Impact.
