QUALITY five-year-old Mr Stunning has proven itself yet again as one of the premier sprinters in Hong Kong.

The John Size-trained runner had already beaten the best Hong Kong had to offer last preparation, but bookmakers refused to show it some respect in the market. Mr Stunning started at $9.30 with Neds.com.au which was well above where it should have been in the betting.

It’s now the highest-rated runner in Hong Kong and Australian jockey Nash Rawiller, who recent scored his 100th win in Hong Kong, gave it a beautiful ride throughout.

“I couldn’t have been more confident going into a nice race,” Rawiller said. “A lot could go wrong, he had a big weight, but I felt I was on something that was going to be damn tough to beat”

Fabulous One set up a solid tempo in front and Rawiller positioned Mr Stunning mid-field on the outside of race favourite Lucky Bubbles. Rawiller pushed the button at the top of the straight and Mr Stunning responded with authority.

It hit the lead with 150m to go and held off the late charge by Lucky Bubbles, which had a chequered passage in the straight.

“He’s an exceptional horse,” Rawiller said. “This was the first time I’d been lucky enough to ride him in a race but he put me in a beautiful spot and travelled sweetly.

“It was an amazing turn-of-foot, especially with that weight.”

Zac Purton was forgiving of Lucky Bubbles, which again didn’t get the best of luck throughout the run.

“It was his first start this season and he ran well – he dashed home nicely,” Purton said.

Amazing Kids finished in third and it ran the quickest final sectional which pleased jockey Brett Prebble.

“He ran a blinder,” Prebble said. “He’s very honest when he’s left alone; he has good speed, doesn’t touch the bridle and he can give you a nice kick.

“He’s always going to be a length or so off the best maybe, but you never know, he’s got enough about him that he might pop up and beat them one day.”
