Mr Individual to continue winter campaign

Three-year-old Mr Individual is back in Victoria and set to continue his winter preparation at Caulfield after a winless two-run Queensland campaign.

Mr Individual was taken north for the Group Two Queensland Guineas but finished 10th after over-racing and hanging out around the home turn.

He then led under Glen Colless in the Group Three Sunshine Coast Guineas on July 2 before finishing fourth in the event won by fellow Melbourne colt Tivaci.

Co-trainer Leon Corstens said Mr Individual had settled in well since coming home from Queensland.

“We did ask the rider to go forward on the horse last start and he might have just worked a little bit harder than we anticipated,” Corstens said.

“He didn’t come back underneath him like we thought he might and he just wanted to get on with the job a little bit. I think it told on him at the finish.”

Mr Individual is among 31 nominations for the 1400m handicap for three-year-olds at Caulfield on Saturday and has been given 59.5kg.

Corstens said because he was a Super VOBIS eligible horse, Mr Individual could have another start after Saturday before his three-year-old season is over at the end of the month.

Saturday’s race is an $80,000 race but also carries $30,000 in Super VOBIS bonuses.

“I’ve always had an opinion of him,” Corstens said.

“I think he’s a horse that the penny has just got to drop a little bit and he would be very, very hard to beat.”

Corstens said Mr Individual’s stablemate, Australian Cup runner-up Awesome Rock, was likely to kick off his spring campaign in either the P B Lawrence Stakes or Memsie Stakes at Caulfield next month.
