Mott Dreaming of feature wins with colt
Jamie Mott has not hidden his opinion of impressive debut winner Doubt I’m Dreaming who he believes can reach the top level.
Mott was aboard the John McArdle-trained Doubt I’m Dreaming when he sprinted to a convincing Listed race win on debut at Moonee Valley last month.
The 29-year-old Mott is still striving to win his first Group One race and believes Doubt I’m Dreaming can measure up as a spring three-year-old.
But first the two-year-old will be out to register his second Listed race win in the Redoute’s Choice Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on Saturday.
“I think he’s pretty special,” Mott said.
“He’s just a natural athlete and I think he’s going to go a long way.
“Everything we’ve asked of him he’s been able to do with real ease and his win was the first time I’d actually asked him for a real serious effort and he surprised me how easy he won the race.
“He can run super times and does it with ease.
“I thought the Moonee Valley race, going into it, was a really strong race and thought if he could win then he’s definitely going to be Group class.
“And he smashed them.”
Doubt I’m Dreaming settled back in the eight-horse field in the St Albans Stakes before dashing clear in the straight to defeat Showtime by 2-3/4 lengths with Muraaqeb another 1-1/2 lengths away.
McArdle took Doubt I’m Dreaming to Cranbourne last Friday for an 800m-trial in preparation for the Redoute’s Choice Stakes.
He won his heat comfortably by three-quarters of a length .
“He trialled really nicely,” Mott said.
“He settled well, the track was very heavy, but he was nice and strong late in his trial and he’s really come on since his win.”
Doubt I’m Dreaming is among 23 nominations for Saturday’s race which is expected to be his final start of the season.
“I’m not sure which way they’re going to go (in the spring), the Coolmore or the Caulfield Guineas, but I’m sure whatever way they choose he’ll definitely measure up,” Mott said.
