A nine-race card is set down for judgement at Morphettville on Saturday afternoon. Last week’s meeting here was dominated by on-speed runners, several of whom went on to win by big margins. The track has come up a Good 4 and the weather is set fair, so we should be in for a good meeting. The first race is set to jump at 12:31pm local time.
We were with this 4YO gelding last Saturday when he was three wide, no cover the trip but still kept finding to grab third place in a quick race. He gets the services of star apprentice Jessica Eaton for the opening event of the day and should have no excuses from barrier three in the now five-horse field. He was fresh off a seven-week freshen up last start, and you’d think he’d only benefit from the run. Jacobite Prince should lead this lot from barrier to box, as recent history shows it is no disadvantage to be up on speed at Morphettville.
Mick Huxtable and Ryan Hurdle team up with this 4YO gelding for the second time in seven days and will be hoping for a repeat of last week’s dominant victory. He gave nothing else a chance when leading all the way over 1600m and showed no sign of slowing down, so the extra 400m shouldn’t be an issue. With nothing else showing any known early speed, he should get an easy time of it up in front and will have plenty left in the tank entering the home straight.
This consistent 5YO gelding for Jordan Frew and Dom Tourneur strikes a very winnable race in the opening leg of the quaddie. He was simply no match for the eventual winner at Murray Bridge in his last start over the concluding stages, but he showed enough to say he will be fighting out the finish here in this BM58. He maps to get a nice cart across from barrier 11 and will look to break the run of outs since his maiden win.
