Moonee Valley night racing

Friday night’s nine-race card at The Valley looks the perfect entree to another weekend of Group 1 racing in Victoria. After a successful meeting last week with plenty of black-type racing on offer, this card features a number of runners that are looking to step up to a higher level.

The track has come up a Good 4, while the rail out 7m could make it a night for on-pace gallopers. The first of nine is set to jump at 5:15pm AEST.

Best BetRace 7 – Look Sharpish Get the best odds

We are more than happy to take on the favourite, as Excelman can be a bit hit or miss. Despite an ordinary run first up, Look Sharpish has put in two massive efforts since. She scored in a driving go at Benalla two starts ago and just missed in similar circumstances at Bendigo a fortnight back. If she brings that form to this race, then the favourite looks to be in some trouble. This 4YO mare is near bombproof on good going, where she is yet to run out of the quinella. The step up to 2040m looks ideal as she looks to go on to Listed or Group racing later in the spring.

Next BestRace 8 – Titan Blinders Get the best odds

Once Look Sharpish gets the job done in the race prior, it’ll be time to load up on another Corstens galloper. This now-5YO gelding is one of the most consistent runners you will come across over the last 12 months, having not missed the placings once in seven runs. This time in, he has three runner-ups to his name off his first three runs, so he will look to break that run of outs here. Craig Williams will settle his mount in a forward position from barrier five and could prove hard to catch.

Best ValueRace 9 – Balle D’or Get the best odds

The synthetic specialist returned to the turf last start last Wednesday when fading badly down the straight at Flemington. The quick backup here looks ideal, while Just Zerene could be a vulnerable favourite due to her barrier jitters. Expect Mark Zahra to take up the running with this 6YO mare, who could prove hard to run down if she has her way up front.
