Friday night racing tips for Moonee Valley

There are eight races set down for judgement on Friday night at The Valley, where the track has come up a Good 4 despite some rain on Wednesday. With the rail out 5m, it shouldn’t be too disadvantageous to be up on speed, but every runner should get their chance. The first race at The Valley under lights will jump at 5:30pm AEDT.

Best BetRace 3 – Matas (#4) $3.50 with Sportsbet

In the Road To Jericho BM78 over 3850m, we’re happy to be on the side of Michael Hickmott’s 5YO mare. The South Australian has put in two dominant performances at Gawler, sustaining a huge run on both occasions. She will be giving her main market rival in Dambulla a start, but with a 2kg swing on the favourite, she should prove hard to hold out. She sustained her run from the 600m mark last time out and went on to win by almost 10 lengths in a small field. If she brings her recent form to The Valley, she should be going home a winner.

Next BestRace 8 – Hearty Lass (#5) $3.70 with Sportsbet

Continuing the South Australian theme in the last race of the program, John Hyam’s 4YO mare was trapped three wide, no cover, up on speed behind an in-form galloper. Despite drawing barrier 12, she has the early speed to overcome the tricky draw and should prove hard to run down. She has some speed drawn outside of her, so she should get a nice cart across the field. If she is afforded a touch of luck early on, it should prove the recipe for success.

Best ValueRace 1 – Ilovethegame (#1) $8 with Sportsbet

This lightly raced gelding for Greg Eurell was a touch disappointing down the straight at Flemington before going for a spell during the winter. Prior to that run, he was too strong over the concluding stages to lead all the way in an impressive victory on debut at Sandown. From barrier three, there should be no issue for Damien Oliver to get over to the rails and dictate terms. If he gets an easy time of it out front, this one will prove hard to run down.
