Moonee Valley quaddie form and tips, Wednesday July 13, 2016

quaddie of the week

MOONEE Valley hosts a rare Wednesday meeting, but we’re not complaining as it gives midweek quaddie punters a look at one of the best tracks in the world.

The tight-turning Moonee Valley track is home of the 2016 Cox Plate where Winx will be looking to defend its title, and it’s not often we get to see the track being used throughout the week.

Poor weather has put a dull atmosphere on racing lately, but perk up for the Valley this Wednesday when then quaddie kicks off with the McMahon’s Dairy R78 at 3.30pm.

Place a quaddie at Sportsbet.com.au where the odds on the final four races are already available.

Leg 1 – McMahon’s Dairy R78 (1000m)

Gun Case has been well backed at its last two starts and for good reason. The Darren Weir-trained gelding pulled out all the stops when winning at Sandown last start and that gutsy effort is what punters love to see. It has drawn the rail and it gets 3kg off its back to help. The current $3.50 with bookmakers and rightfully so.

Berlutti is a five-win gelding for trainer Mick Price which drops back significantly in grade. The four-year-old ran fifth behind Odyssey Moon last start and that form is stellar for this level. It won by 0.75 lengths in this grade two starts back and the $7 being offered is great each way value. A must-include in quaddie selections.

The Dynamo is a consistent gelding which has placed in three of its last four starts. It ran Gun Case to within a long neck last start which is good form and it gets in well on the weights. Punters have taken notice and it’s currently on the second line of betting at $3.90. Chance to turn the tables.

Leg 2 – Telstra Phonewords R78 (1200m)

Miss Softhands is an exciting mare making its comeback after spelling in January. The Colin Little-trained mare won three consecutive races last preparation which included a rating 90 win at Flemington. That form is easily good enough to take this midweek race out and it hasn’t finished worse than third in five fresh up starts. Follow any positive market moves.

Kievann is an eight-time winner for trainer Stephen Brown which drops back from handicap grade. The five-year-old hasn’t won since December last year, but its third behind Voodoo Lad last start is encouraging for this grade. Jockey Beau Mertens takes a valuable 3kg off its back which is needed for it to win here.

Chris Waller lines up Magicus which had absolutely no luck when fourth in this grade last start. The four-year-old gelding was wide throughout the 1200m trip, but it stuck on well for fourth and it finished only 1.1 lengths behind the winner. It is unbeaten in two starts at Moonee Valley and Craig Williams should ensure it gets a solid run. Tough from barrier 10, but it will be heavily backed.

Leg 2 quaddie tips: 1, 2, 7

Leg 3 – Ranvet R84 Handicap (1600m)

Spreadeagled didn’t fire in handicap level last start, but its form prior was very strong and punters should give it another chance. The Robert Smerdon-trained gelding won in this grade two back at Sandown, which took its win record to five from 14. It is twice a winner at Moonee Valley which is a key statistic and it has Victoria’s current leading jockey in the saddle.

The switch to the Darren Weir stables for Chivalry has done wonders already as it went close at handicap level last start. The son of Street Cry finished second at Bendigo behind Fast And Free, and it has the class factor at this level. It used to race in top quality races without much luck, but with Ben Allen’s 3kg claim, it should be included in quaddie selections.

Volcanic Ash has a professional record of five wins and four placings from 15 starts. The four-year-old finished second last time out at Morphettville when it carried 58.5kg and it drops down nicely in weight for this. It’s rarely far away from the action and it is a must-include quaddie selection.

Leg 3 quaddie tips: 2, 4, 5

Leg 4 – The Sporting Globe R78 Handicap (2040m)

Maraudamiss was given a peach of a ride from Brad Rawiller last start when he used the inside part of the track. The Michael Kent-trained mare was last coming around the turn, but as the field drifted wide, Rawiller took the inside running and scored an easy 3.5-length victory. It loves running on rain-affected ground and it should cope with the rise in class.

Dulverton is a last start winner at Sandown which came by 4.75 lengths. The Robert Smerdon-trained filly enjoyed a massive drop in class after contesting the Queensland Oaks prior and it should cope well with the rating 78 grade for this. The daughter of Commands is a promising type and punters will likely come for it.
