Moonee Valley Cup Horse Betting Preview

The Group 2 Moonee Valley Gold Cup plays somewhat of a curtain-raiser to the Ladbrokes Cox Plate. Run over 2500m, it is the race that Prince of Penzance spring-boarded out of to win the Melbourne Cup in 2015. Shared Ambition is the current favourite in the race, ahead of Sound, Hush Writer and European import, Selino. It should be a genuine tempo up front, set by Hush Writer and Trap For Fools.

2020 Group 2 Horse Betting Tips

Best Bet4. Shared Ambition$3.90 with Sportsbet

We are going to give Shared Ambition one last chance to get us some of our hard earned back after going down in all four runs this campaign. He has been a victim of bad barriers to date, but he draws well here in the middle of the line which will hopefully see JMac settle a bit closer than usual on the gelding. He has shown so much potential and goes very well the Melbourne way of going, so with any luck, he can get back onto his anti-clockwise leg and be too good for these. It will be his first look around The Valley, but we are willing to put that on the backburner as he stays at a suitable distance. He should be too smart.

Next Best Bet7. Sound$5.50 with Sportsbet

Sound went past Shared Ambition last start when second in the Bart Cummings behind Persan. On that day, he finished one tenth of a length in front of Steel Prince, who subsequently won the Geelong Cup on Wednesday which franked that form. Barrier two will allow the in-form Mark Zahra to get the run of the race on the ex-German, who will race in one of the easier races he has contested for some time, given he has been set for Melbourne and Caulfield Cups in recent years. This will be his grand final and he should be peaking in this.

Best Value12. Polly Grey$9.00 & $3.00 with Sportsbet

Chris Waller’s Polly Grey presents as nice each way value after running fourth in the Cranbourne Cup last start. She is a consistent mare who is always thereabouts and looks due for a win after coming out of the Naturalism which has seen Chapada run well in the Caulfield Cup and Steel Prince win the Geelong Cup. She gets to 2500m for the first time in a while which will suit given she has a win to her name over this trip, and she has placed at her only start at this track back in August. She’ll be out the back from barrier 10, but look for the little grey horse finishing well late.
