MOONEE Valley Friday night racing returns this Australia Day and we’re excited about what the evening will bring.

The Valley should be the hottest scene in Melbourne on Friday night, so let’s get stuck into our selections for the meet to help make what should be a great night even better.

Race 1 – Rs0mw (1000m)

Native Soldier is the only horse in this field that has previously won, which will count for a lot. In fact, in a field where only one other horse has ran competitively it is the only animal that has finished inside the first half of the field. In a field of first-starters we’re taking the place option here.

Race 1 tip: Native Soldier to place ($3.80 at Crownbet)

Race 2 – Benchmark 70 (1000m)

Sam’s Image comes into this race fresh, where it has a great record of a win and a placing from three attempts. The horse will not be short of fitness either after winning a trial in convincing fashion. Sam’s Image is the best bet of the night.

Race 2 tip: Sam’s Image to win ($2.15 at Neds)

Race 3 – Benchmark 78 (955m)

Belwazi bounced back in spectacular fashion last time out at Cranbourne, winning by three lengths. The horse has a great record at the Valley and at the distance, so expect another win here.

Race 3 tip: Balwazi to win ($2.65 at Ladbrokes)

Race 4 – Australia Stakes (1200m)

We think Brave Smash is in for a big preparation and it starts with a win in the Australia Stakes. The Weir runner has now experienced enough racing in Australia to be accumulated to the tracks and weather so expect a much different horse.

Race 4 tip: Brave Smash to win ($1.85 at Sportsbet)

Race 5 – Open Handicap (1500m)

You cannot argue with the effort Widgee Turf brings to the table. The horse is undefeated across three runs this preparation and is undefeated at the track and distance. Back the son of Turffontein in again for another strong performance.

Race 5 tip: Widgee Turf to win ($2.65 at William Hill)

Race 6 – Benchmark 70 (1200m)

[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1180337_06]

Under Oath has placed previously second-up and was far from disgraced first-up when it finished just over one length away from Valente on January 5. Place price is very enticing here as the bookmakers look to hedge their bets on a few question marks around Under Oath, but we think finishing in the money is achievable.

Race 6 tip: Under Oath to place ($6 at William Hill)

Race 7 – Benchmark 78 (2500m)

[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1180337_07]

Tuff Bickie is a last-start winner that can deliver once again in the penultimate here. The Reward For Effort five-year-old has won two of its last three and has a good record at the distance. The horse pairs up with Jye McNeil once again, who has steered the runner to its last two wins.

Race 7 tip: Tuff Bickie to win ($9 at Crownbet)

Race 8 – Benchmark 70 (1200m)

[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1180337_08]

Trojan Storm comes into this race third-up, where it has previously placed at in the past. The horse recorded a comfortable two and three part length win at Ballarat just under two weeks ago under Craig Williams, who again takes the ride.

Race 8 tip: Trojan Storm to win ($6.50 at Sportsbet)
