Moher to be checked by vet on race day

Festival Stakes contender Moher will need to be examined by Racing NSW veterinarians when he arrives on course ahead of the Group Three race after the Godolphin stable reported the gelding was kicked by a stablemate on race eve.

Darren Beadman, stable representative for Godolphin trainer James Cummings, told stewards Moher was kicked in his off-side hock on Friday morning by a stablemate and had sustained a minor abrasion.

Later on Friday, Racing NSW stewards received a stable veterinary clearance for Moher, who is at $10 for Saturday’s Festival Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill.

“The clearance advises that Moher had some minor localised swelling to the hock but no pain on palpation and was sound at the trot,” Racing NSW stewards said.

“Moher will be examined by Racing NSW Veterinarians when it arrives on course at Rosehill Gardens tomorrow.”

Five-year-old Moher won a 1400m open handicap at Flemington last start and is one of two Cummings-trained runners in the Festival with Federal who is the $4.80 second favourite.

The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained Cabeza De Vaca is the $2.70 favourite.
