Monday racing tips for Moe

An eight-race card is set down for judgement from 1:30pm AEDT on Monday afternoon at Moe, where the track has come up a Soft 5 at the time of writing. However, with a favourable forecast over the weekend, it’s easy to think that we will be racing on a Good 4 come race day. The rail remains in the true position and we’re set fair to kick off another week of racing in Victoria.

Best BetRace 6 – Pufnstuf (#1) $3.10 with Sportsbet

On the seven-day backup after breaking through at Ballarat last Monday in impressive style, Ern Ewert’s 7YO gelding looks to have lobbed into a race that is his for the taking. He let down nicely wide on the track at Ballarat to reel in an odds-on favourite and hit the line well in the process. He steps up to the 2400m for the second time in his career and gets in well at the weights with the claim of Celine Gaudray. From the wide barrier, he maps to settle in the back half of the field but should have enough of a turn of foot to overcome any issues.

Next BestRace 1 – Yulong Command (#7) $1.65 with Sportsbet

Anthony Freedman and Lachie Niendorf team up with this 3YO gelding who will be looking to build on his first-up second placing at Benalla a fortnight ago. He showed plenty of early speed in that race and led up until the 200m mark, where he was headed off by the eventual winner, but kept finding to go down by just over a length. In what looks a pretty thin maiden in the opening event at Moe, he looks the best way to kick off the card.

Best ValueRace 8 – Nevershotthedeputy (#7) $8.50 with Sportsbet

John McCardle’s filly tends to make her own luck up on speed. With the benefit of getting onto a firmer track for the first time in her short career, she looks to be a nice each-way play to close out the card at Moe. First up at Yarra Valley a fortnight ago, she fought hard late to hold on and break her maiden in a fine on-speed display where she and the runner-up put four lengths on their closest rivals. From barrier one, she shouldn’t have many issues in getting up on the pace and may prove hard to run down.
