2020 Mode Plate betting preview

The final race on the program at Doomben this Saturday is the Listed Mode Plate for three-year-old fillies over the 1200m. Isotope is the even-money favourite ahead of Paredo, Gotta Kiss and Dusty Tycoon. They’ll go quick early, with the likes of Dusty Tycoon, Hancora Field, Aviemore and One Shy Ruby all natural speedsters. If the market elect jumps cleanly from the inside alley, she’ll get the run of the race in the first half a dozen.

We are heavily in the Isotope corner here. She should’ve won first up, but she bombed the start, was caught wide and still savaged the line behind Goldsborough. She has since trialled and won comfortably and will gain the experience of Ryan Maloney for this Listed race. The barrier blanket will be used, as will blinkers and the brow band, all for the first time, which should help her settle and switch on. Expect a positive ride and a strong victory.

Gotta Kiss was the class of the field at the Sunshine Coast a fortnight ago when she ran a fast-finishing fourth behind Fleet Dove, but the big weight got the better of her. She drops 3.5kg here and now receives weight from most of her rivals. She has placed at Group 1 level behind Rothfire and actually beat Isotope home that day, which has to see her competitive here. The daughter of Not A Single Doubt will like the fast pace, but she does have to overcome the wide gate to beat the favourite. She is a clear second elect in our book.

We could make a case for half a dozen of them for our third pick, as it looks wide open outside the top two. One filly we were keen on last start was Hancora Field, but she pulled up sore after the vet found a mouth laceration. We can forgive her because of that and can’t let her go around at $71. Our man Jimmy Orman has won on her in the past and has a good partnership with the trainer, Les Ross. Up to 1200m and second up is where this one does her best racing, so if she has recovered from her last start, she can be one to include in your multiples at a big price.
