Mission Tycoon gets city chance after Kembla Grange win
THE roll of the Written Tycoon three-year-old’s continued at Kembla Grange continued on Saturday when Mission Tycoon scored a brave win in the Frenchy’s Bucks Handicap.
The Mark Newnham-trained gelding entered the race having won on debut at Newcastle (Beaumont) with a solid front-running display and it was more of the same on Saturday as the big-framed runner made it two-from-two.

Jockey Koby Jennings took over the running soon after the start and much like its debut run, Mission Tycoon didn’t give its rivals much chance to run it down despite running into a stiff breeze.
“He’s pulled up terrific,” Newnham told Horsebetting.com.au. “He’s a big solid horse and he’s pulled up well.
“He was probably the only horse to lead into that head wind yestersday, so it was a pretty good effort.”
Newnham believes now is the time to give it a run at metropolitan level, but won’t try for stakes level racing until the autumn.
“His next run will be in town and we’ll probably give him three weeks between runs,” he said. “There’s a couple of options for him, but it’ll either be in three weeks or a month.
“He’ll only have another run or two this preparation and then go out.
“We’ll give him an autumn campaign.”
Newnham is weary of its size and said he will let the slow-maturing gelding find its rhythm will more experience under its belt next year.
“He’s a slow-maturing horse and we’ll just keep him down in grade at the moment and let him develop,” Newnham said.
“He’ll run a mile, I’m confident about that.
“He was strong to the line yesterday after working for most of the race, so 1400-1600m will be his trip.”
