Miss Siska takes out Group 2 Peter Young Stakes

Miss Siska wins the Peter Young Stakes.
Miss Siska has graduated to weight-for-age level in beating a field of Australian Cup contenders.

Miss Siska has continued her path towards the Australian Cup with another fighting win at Caulfield to remain unbeaten for the campaign.

After a first-up win at Caulfield on February 8, Miss Siska added Saturday’s Group Two Peter Young Stakes (1800m) to her record.

Trainer Grahame Begg said the mare would now head to the Group One Australian Cup (2000m) at Flemington on March 7.

Tracking the leader Odeon, Miss Siska ($4.20), under Damian Lane, took over at the 150m mark and held off a late challenge from the $3.10 favourite Kings Will Dream to win by a head with Mirage Dancer ($31) running on for third, three quarters of a length away.

Miss Siska had a tough end to her spring campaign when she ran three weeks in a row, twice during Melbourne Cup week then stretching out to 2400m in the Sandown Classic in November.

“I think last preparation has set her up for this campaign,” Begg said.

“She had some tough racing three weeks in a row and she has carried that form through in this campaign.

“She’s a dream to train and she goes out and gets the job done.”

Begg said he is looking forward to a return to Flemington with Miss Siska having previously been twice placed over the Australian Cup course and distance.

A trip to Sydney following the Australian Cup will be weather dependant.

“We’ll watch for the wet tracks up there because she loves being on top of the ground,” Begg said.
