Midweek racing form and free tips for Warwick Farm, August 2

Midweek tips

THE spring feeling is in the air at Warwick Farm this Wednesday and we have form and free tips for the entire card.

With most of the winter season behind us, punters are getting a good look into the early spring types and many of them start off at the midweek level.

There are some handy three-year-old types lining up to open the Warwick Farm card and the big stables are bringing out the big guns in the hopes to get an early start on the spring age-group races.

Form is the key betting aspect for the day, but so is getting the right odds and punters betting with Topbetta.com.au will not only get big betting pools, but also some of the best odds in Australia.

Race 1 – Pluck @ Vinery Handicap (1100m)

Key To Glory has performed well at the trials leading into this and should be well-backed with bookmakers. The Mark Newnham-trained gelding finished seventh at its first trial in February, but has since gone back-to-back at Randwick and its most recent win came by over five lengths. The well-bred son of Your Song looks to have above average ability and punters could be seeing it feature at stakes level later this year.

Piracy tried hard at Hawkesbury last start, but it just wasn’t enough to beat Commanding Witness. The three-year-old by Exceed And Excel was well-favoured in the betting and it will likely run at similar odds for this. It has race experience which is key and it was considered good enough to kick off its racing career in the Breeders Plate, so that’s worth noting.

Race 2 – The Everest Is Coming Handicap (1100m)

Connections of Alizee have been confident throughout its career to date and it will find this more suitable. The Godolphin-raced filly finished fourth on debut at Randwick as the $1.75 shot and went to the Magic Night Stakes as a $7 chance when running second behind Tulip. It didn’t handle the heavy conditions in the Kindergarten, but it should be in good order for this midweek level race and the money will likely be on again.

Sweet Deal is another runner that should be popular with punters. The John Thompson-trained filly ran third behind Teaspoon in the Widden Stakes to open its account and a placing in the Inglis Classic was to follow quickly afterwards. Much like Alizee, it will enjoy racing at this level and despite it being one of the strongest maiden handicap’s we’ll ever see, it should be competitive.

Race 3 – Schweppes Handicap (1200m)

Single And Free is a professional winner which has won half of its eight career starts. The Angela Davies-trained five-year-old scored three wins in four starts last campaign and it has since resumed with a solid showing for third at Hawkesbury. This won’t be any easier, but it typically improves with the run under its belt and it prefers racing at this sprint distance.

Luiza couldn’t muster at Warwick Farm when resuming last month, but its early season form in worth considering. The Chris Waller-trained filly won on debut at Randwick before travelling to Moonee Valley for the Inglis 2YO Classic where it finished fourth behind Azazel. Tommy Berry taking the ride is a good sign and it gets a weight advantage over most of this field.

Race 3 tip: Luiza to win at Sportsbet.com.au

Race 4 – Tab Handicap (2200m)

Bastia is a consistent type which has won two of its nine starts. The Kris Lees-trained four-year-old was only caught late in the piece at Canterbury last time out and its form prior included strong placings behind Cosmic Engine and Imperator Augustus. The rise up in distance is going to suit nicely considering its breeding and it’s in fit order for this.

El Novio is long overdue a win for Chris Waller and it could come in this. The son of Casino Prince drops back in grade after finishing fifth at Warwick Farm in rating 72 grade last start and it returns to a track where it has had success prior. Two of its four starts at this distance have resulted in wins and if it’s ever going to win another race, this would be it.

Race 5 – Theraces Handicap (1200m)

Bright Future continues to run well this preparation after scoring at Wyong last start. The Gerald Ryan-trained gelding has won two of its three starts this time in and both have come at this distance. Rising in grade shouldn’t be an issue for the experienced six-year-old and it has the ability to handle all different track conditions. This isn’t the hardest race to win at Warwick Farm and it could take advantage of that.

Bring A Secret has won five of its 27 starts and is making its Warwick Farm debut here. The Nick Olive-trained gelding has been in the money in 10 of its 14 starts at this distance and is coming off a strong win over Major Sharpe at Canberra last start. That form should translate nicely to this grade and it looks a strong each way chance.

Race 5 tip: $15 at CrownBet.com.au

Race 6 – Bowermans Office Furniture Handicap (1600m)

Alfred The Great hasn’t been far away in two runs this preparation and it will enjoy dropping right down in weight to 55kg. The Cummings-trained six-year-old hasn’t won since taking out the Bong Bong Cup in 2016, but its form throughout its career is too good to ignore at this level. It might find a new lease on life carrying such a light weight and punters might be getting value odds.

Estikhraaj ran on stylishly behind Collateral last start and that’s good form for midweek level. The Waller-trained six-year-old has yet to win or place in four starts on this track, but it defeated El Novio by 2.5 lengths two starts back and that form might get franked earlier on the card. It has drawn perfectly for this and we’re expecting a big effort.

Race 6 tip: Estikhraaj to win at Ladbrokes.com.au

Race 7 – Tabcorp Handicap (1400m)

Abohar is a form runner for Richard Laming, having won well at Doomben last time out. The six-year-old has winning experience on this track and it will appreciate any easing of the surface as it hasn’t won or placed in nine attempts on a good track. Rising in weight is due to its class and Andrew Adkins takes some weight off its back. Should possess each way potential.

Fortensky is a nice type for Chris Waller which went close on this track last start. The four-year-old settled right back in the field before coming with a big run to finish within a neck of Invicta and that form should hold up nicely in this. It has placed twice on this track from three starts and it has shown the ability to handle all different track conditions.

Race 7 tip: Fortensky to win at Sportsbet.com.au
