Midweek racing form and free tips at Sandown, Wednesday March 22

Midweek tips

GOOD betting fields is the flavour of the day at Sandown this Wednesday where we have form and free tips for all eight races on the card.

One of the betting fields on the day is Race 6 where a big field of 15 thoroughbreds have accepted. The field includes some rising talent at the midweek level and we’re excited to see what comes out of it.

The action starts with the Comcater Maiden Plate at 1.30pm and punters can get the best midweek odds at Sandown with Ladbrokes.com.au.

Race 1 – Comcater Maiden Plate (1300m)

Tenappy Ladies is struggling to get out of maiden grades, but it should come shortly. The Michael Kent-trained colt finished second on debut behind a nice type at Moonee Valley and it ran well again on that track last start. The son of Choisir ran well behind Fast Stryke and it should find slightly easier on the quick back up. The slight rise in distance won’t post any problems and we’re expecting bookmakers to open it short in the betting.

Millie The Missile is another smart juvenile which won’t take long to exit this grade. The Luke Oliver-trained filly ran third behind Echo Queen two starts back which was followed by a tough performance at Moonee Valley last start. The Smart Missile filly was wide throughout, but kept finding in the straight to run within a head of the winner. Golden Slipper-winning jockey Ben Melham takes the ride and that’s a big bonus.

Race 2 – Hamilton Reid Accountants R64 (1400m)

Bright Lights Baby has plenty of potential for Chris Waller and punters should be expecting a better showing than last start. The three-year-old scored its maiden win at Hawkesbury three starts back before coming to Melbourne and running second behind Mrs Gardenia. It didn’t quite cope with the run last start, but it should be paying good odds for this and it has drawn nicely for this run.

Heath Connors lines up Sparkle which took on some quality opposition in Sydney. The well-bred daughter of More Than Ready finished last in the Group 1 Sires’ Produce behind Yankee Rose before dropping back to maiden grade. It finally broke out of the grade when winning at Warwick Farm in October and it wasn’t far behind them in its first start in Melbourne. It has drawn awkwardly here, but it should run well.

Race 3 – Blue Star Group R64 Handicap (1300m)

Pop Queen is a capable four-year-old mare which went close last start. The daughter of Stryker finished second at Cranbourne behind a nice midweek type and it has yet to run a bad race. It has won or placed in seven of eight starts and that consistency is what punters love to follow. It has drawn ideally in barrier four and apprentice Ben Allen takes some much needed weight off its back.

Stolen Angel is backing up after winning last start at Cranbourne. The Ellerton/Zahra-trained filly scored by almost a length last start and it will get every chance to win again from the inside barrier. Its form prior included close-up finishes behind the likes of Piccadillies and Big John Cannon, so that form looks solid for this at midweek level.

Race 4 – Elaren Security Services R70 Handicap (1600m)

Single Note is a runner in form having taken out its last two starts. The Robbie Griffiths-trained mare scored a solid win in rating 64 grade two back before jumping right up in grade and scoring again. The four-year-old won by a nose in rating 78 grade and it should enjoy dropping back in class for this. It rises up in weight, but Beau Mertens takes 2kg off its back which brings it back into contention.

Gold Blush has plenty of upside after remaining unbeaten from two starts. The Darren Weir-trained mare scored narrowly on debut at Seymour before winning two weeks later at Ballarat as a $2.80 chance. That win came impressively by 2.5 lengths and it’s bred to appreciate the longer distances. The daughter of Lope de Vega will see out the mile and likely progress to the longer distances later this season.

Race 5 – Dream Thoroughbreds R64 Handicap (1600m)

Weir has another good runner this Wednesday with Rockstar Rebel. The three-year-old scored a maiden win over subsequent winner Fast Styke in October last year before running a tidy third at Flemington in the Connoisseur Stakes behind the highly-touted Aanheim. It resumed this campaign with a solid effort for fourth and the immediate rise in distance helps this up-and-coming staying colt.

Siga La Vaca is having its first start on this track after running second at Ballarat last start. The Aaron Purcell-trained gelding won’t find it easy here, but it does drop back in class and it gets every chance from the inside draw. Its best efforts have come at this distance and it could provide some value to each way punters.

Race 5 tip: Rockstar Rebel to win at Sportsbet.com.au

Race 6 – Ladbrokes R64 Handicap (1000m)

Sacred Sham is seeking to remain unbeaten after winning impressively on debut. The Danny O’Brien-trained colt scored by 1.25 lengths at Seymour and it ran a slick time over the 1000m. The nicely-bred son of O’Reilly was well-backed on that occasion and we’re expecting something similar for this. Craig Williams jumps in the saddle and he’s the hottest jockey in Australia at the moment.

Sebring’s Joy looks to have ability after winning on debut and subsequently running second last start. The Weir-trained filly scored in a nice time on debut at Swan Hill, but it was beaten by four lengths at Ballarat last start. That came fresh up and it should enjoy having the run under its belt with the apprentice claim coming off its back.

Race 7 tip: Moorookyle Park Stud Handicap (2400m)

Hot Power is looking for a bounce back performance after running seventh at Cranbourne last start. The nine-year-old was in great form prior to that having placed in back-to-back starts. It won its start prior at Cranbourne and it rises up in distance here where it runs best. It has finished in the money in five of seven starts at the 2400m and punters should expect to see a better showing this time around.

Richard Of Yorke has been an expensive horse for punters to follow, but it is improving with every run this preparation. The Waller-trained import finished a handy second placing at Moonee Valley last week and it should have strengthened up nicely after that effort. It drops in weight to 54kg with Dwayne Dunn in the saddle and it won’t mind the rise in class.

Race 7 tip: Richard Of Yorke to place at Sportsbet.com.au

Race 8 – Le Pine Funerals R70 Handicap (1400m)

Dance For Me was an easy winner last time out at Bendigo and another looks on the cards. The Mick Price-trained mare is sparingly raced which suggests it has had some problems, but it comes into this with back-to-back wins and an inside draw to work with. It drops in weight nicely to 56kg and it should figure in the finish.

Presscott scored a nice win at Bendigo to start this campaign and it has gone well since. The Waller-trained colt finished second behind Wheal Leisure last start which has subsequently raced at Flemington. The son of Jimmy Choux drops back in distance to the 1400m after contesting 2040m last start, but it’s fresh up and it could fire at the light weight.

Race 8 tip: Dance For Me to win at CrownBet.com.au
