Midweek racing at Wyong with form and free tips, April 19

Midweek tips

AFTER a busy Easter racing period which included meetings at Randwick and Canterbury, New South Wales metropolitan racing returns to Wyong this Wednesday with an eight-race card.

The fields are overly sizable due to the Easter Monday meeting at Canterbury, but there’s still some good thoroughbreds on display in what should be a competitive day of racing.

We have found the best tips and form at Wyong which starts with the Vawdrey Trailers Australia Rating 72 at 12.35pm.

Race 1 – Vawdrey Trailers Australia R72 (1350m)

Miami Dade is fresh up after winning at Kembla Grange in December and it should appreciate this distance first up. The John O’Shea-trained gelding was long overdue the win and it gets Brenton Avdulla in the saddle who is riding very well in Sydney. The small field should allow it to settle close to the pace and they will find it hard to run it down.

Lucky Fish went close last start at Newcastle and it has race fitness on its side. The Mark Newnham-trained four-year-old has been competing against nice types throughout its career which includes a placing behind Dreamforce and Liapari. That form should stack up nicely here and it has every chance to lead them all the way. It gets a weight advantage on Miami Dade and race fitness will help.

Race 2 – Central Coast Mariners R67 (1000m)

Once More A Lady has placed once from two starts fresh up and it should find form quickly against this field. The Joe Pride-trained filly drops in grade after finishing fourth last time out at Canterbury and it looked the goods when beating Nonpareil by two lengths to break maiden status. That’s good form for this and it’s an adaptable type which can score from all positions in the field.

Planet’s Princess was a smart winner at Canberra last start and Canberra form has stood up nicely throughout the Sydney autumn. The Waller-trained three-year-old significantly improved its form after running last on debut and the time away from the track did it plenty of good. Getting in with a light weight of 54kg and Avdulla in the saddle is a great thing for punters.

Race 3 – Volvo Commercial Vehicles 2YO (1350m)

Bidwee only battled in the heavy conditions last start, but it should strip fitter for this. The Hawkes-trained colt came over from Melbourne with two placings from two starts and ran as the $3.80 second favourite at Warwick Farm, but it never threatened. It has drawn awkwardly in barrier nine for this which is a concern, but it has plenty of natural speed and we wouldn’t be surprised to see it feature in the placings.

Tangled made good ground late at Newcastle and it should go well again here. The Waller-trained son of Snitzel settled too far back last start and the smaller field will be ideal here. Its debut run came behind the talented Falconic and that form should stack up nicely at the midweek level. Expect Brenton Avdulla to be more positive out of the gates.

Race 4 – Galaxy Finance & Property Group R67 (1000m)

Postmaster General comes into this having won nicely at Wyong last start. The Newnham-trained gelding put away a tidy field by two lengths and it never looked like being beaten. Its form prior was solid which included another win on this track and that experience at Wyong will be key. It handles all ground and we’d be surprised to see it finish outside of the placings.

Best Guess also comes into this having won its last start. The Waller-trained gelding scored an ultra impressive 3.30-length victory at Gosford and it looks every chance of repeating the dose. The son of Snippetson improved on a debut showing where it ran third behind Medlyn and the money was on last start. Our best guess is that punters will come for the three-year-old again in the betting.

Race 5 – Phoenix Fire Protection R67 (1350m)

Passage Of Time was a stylish two-length winner on debut at Kembla Grange. The James Cummings-trained colt relished the heavy track conditions to score easily and the stable is firing with their rising juveniles. The son of Northern Meteor meets a much harder field here, but it would pay to follow any positive betting support with this runner.

Zonk looks to have plenty of potential after winning by 1.3 lengths last start. The Les Bridge-trained filly ran a solid time on a slow track which came after running second behind the highly-touted In Times Of War at Warwick Farm on debut. That form will stack up throughout the winter and Zonk looks to have many more wins in store.

Race 6 – Men Of Football R72 (2100m)

Zaveena has winning form leading into this with back-to-back wins. The Jason Clisby-trained mare is rising up in grade which will make life difficult, but it deserves its chance here and there’s not much form elsewhere to suggest. It’s a three-time winner over this distance and it has wins on all track surfaces. Bookmakers should be offering each way odds.

Segenhoe looked good when winning by over six lengths at Wyong two back, but it didn’t fire last start at Newcastle. The five-year-old is a track specialist after remaining unbeaten from two starts here and it excels over this distance. The rise in grade will make it tough, but Kerrin McEvoy rides and that’s good enough for us.

Race 7 – Central Coast Football R72 (1600m)

Chandana had its chance last start, but we’ll allow it another go. The Waller-trained mare has won only two from 13 starts and has under-performed to date, but it does possess a fair amount of ability. The four-year-old has twice placed at this distance and any easing of the track will help immensely. It should get a good run from barrier four and it will no doubt be well-supported in the betting.

Montignac is knocking on the door after consecutive placings. The O’Shea-trained mare finished within a length from the winner at Wyong last start and it won’t have to improve much to feature in the placings again. It has yet to finish outside of the placings from three starts at this distance and it should be well-favoured with punters.

Race 7 tip: Chandana to win at Ladbrokes.com.au

Race 8 – Go Electrical R67 (1200m)

Kitteau score a narrow win on debut for Joe Pride before running second last time out. The three-year-old didn’t quite cope with the slow track conditions at Gosford, but having the run under its belt will help and it should get a good run from barrier five. This isn’t the easiest field, but consider for the win.

Tswalu was a classy winner two back at Wyong before running into some nice types at Warwick Farm last start. The four-year-old mare has been well-backed in all three career starts to date which is a good sign and we’re expecting punters to come for it again.
