Midweek racing at Warwick Farm with form and free tips, April 5

Midweek tips

PUNTERS have warmed down after a frantic day one of The Championships, but it’s time to warm up again with a quality midweek meeting at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.

There are some talented thoroughbreds on display on what is a competitive eight-race card and we have form and free tips for every race.

The meeting kicks off with a good field of juveniles where the winner looks a good chance to progress nicely through the grades.

Race 1 – Pride Of Dubai @ Coolmore 2YO Maiden (1300m)

Ataraxia ran a solid race for second on debut Beaumont and was well-favoured to win at Newcastle last start. The John O’Shea-trained colt got a little too far back in the running last start and it might have felt the pinch of a dry track. Conditions are likely to be much more favourable here and getting the inside draw with James Doyle in the saddle is a positive.

Bidwee comes over from Melbourne having finished in the money at both starts. The Hawkes-trained colt is royally bred by Fastnet Rock and it hasn’t been far away to date. It ran second on debut at Geelong before running third behind Fully Maxed at Seymour last start. There’s plenty of hype surrounding this runner and Tommy Berry should give it a good ride.

Race 2 – All Too Hard @ Vinery Stud Maiden (1600m)

Raise An Army is long overdue its maiden win after going close on many occasions. The Chris Waller-trained colt has six placings from 10 starts, including a third placing behind Baysa last start at Goulburn. The three-year-old has form behind subsequent winner The Pinnacle and it will be having its four start on this track. It looks a serious winning chance from barrier two.

Stablemate Vanzetta produced a good showing last start after being well-held on debut. The daughter of Hinchinbrook ran a length behind the winner at Newcastle as a $6 chance and we think it will be at slightly shorter odds in this. Jason Collett takes the ride at 55kg which is an ideal weight for the filly.

Race 3 – Tab R67 3YO Handicap (1400m)

Hurry didn’t show much in its Australian debut after showing plenty in New Zealand, but it shouldn’t be dropped just yet. The Michael Moroney-trained filly finished ninth at Sandown, but its form prior in New Zealand included a placing behind Hall Of Fame. That’s great form and with some extra distance and softer track condition, it could turn that form around here.

Egg Tart is a talented youngster which has won its last two races. The Waller-trained filly won by over three lengths at Canterbury two back before scoring an easy win at Beaumont last time out. It has shown the ability to win in all track conditions which is a positive and it only needs to carry the big weight with Hugh Bowman in the saddle. Carrying over 60kg as a filly isn’t easy, so watch for any late betting moves with this runner.

Race 4 – Davali Thoroughbreds R78 Handicap (2200m)

Lookin’ At You is a two-time winner from eight starts which included a 1.8-length win at Goulburn last start. The Cummings-trained gelding tends to mix its form and it faces a significant rise in grade for this, but it drops right down in weight to 53.5kg and it won’t have to spend much energy from the inside draw. Each way odds should be available with this runner.

Divine Sanction is also twice a winner and it brings in solid form for this. The O’Shea-trained gelding won at Kembla Grange three starts back when carrying 61kg and its two runs since have been good. It only narrowly suffered defeat last start when carrying 61kg so the drop to 56.5kg with Doyle in the saddle is a bonus. It should lob into a good position from barrier two and be tough to beat in the straight.

Race 5 – Tab R78 Handicap (1400m)

Cottage didn’t resume with gusto, but it’s not suited to a heavy track. The Godolphin four-year-old plugged home at Warwick Farm last start, but its form prior included a win on this track and it’s faced some more than handy thoroughbreds in its time. The daughter of Teofilo is unbeaten in three starts at this distance and having Blake Shinn in the saddle is a positive.

Chandana is a model of consistency with three consecutive third placings this campaign. The Waller-trained four-year-old ran well on a heavy track behind Supply And Demand last start and its only poor run came in The Roses during the Magic Millions carnival. It goes well on this track and it should be tough to beat at the midweek level this Wednesday.

Race 6 – Hinchinbrook @ Yarraman Park 3YO (1600m)

Exoteric is a classy European import for Chris Waller. The four-year-old is a three-time winner from six starts which included a three-length win last start. That came in October last year so it will likely need time to produce its best, but the European form must be respected as they have been cleaning up the staying races in Australia all season. Follow any positive betting moves.

Le Cavalier is an experienced runner which finished third in the Albury Mile last time out. The Norm Gardner-trained gelding has missed a placing only twice from 12 starts at this distance which is a great record and it handles most track. Blake Shinn is a good booking and it could feature in the placings again.

Race 7 – Bowermans Office Furniture 3YO (1200m)

Medlyn was a classy all-the-way winner on debut at Warwick Farm. The Waterhouse/Bott-trained gelding put 3.5 lengths on its rivals after being taken to the front by Kerrin McEvoy. Rachel King takes over the riding for this to give it an apprentice claim and it will likely find the lead again from a good barrier. The win came on a heavy track, but respect on all conditions.

In Times Of War look good last campaign which ended with a win. The three-year-old filly finished second at its first two career starts being the likes of Spright before beating subsequent winner Zonk in good fashion. That’s very good form for midweek grade and the daughter of Street Cry looks to have a fair amount of natural ability. Likely to be well-favoured here.

Race 8 – Tab R78 Handicap (1200m)

Rillito didn’t fire at Rosehill last start in a tough race, but its form prior was solid enough. The O’Shea-trained mare won three consecutive races last campaign as it rose through the grades and it looked good doing so. The four-year-old is twice a winner at this distance and it only needs to cope with the wide draw to figure in the finish.

Sweet Serendipity is worth an each way bet after finishing fourth last start. The Jason Coyle-trained runner set the pace last start at Warwick Farm and battled on well with the big weight. It drops down here with Kathy O’Hara in the saddle and we wouldn’t be surprised to see it figuring in the finish.
