Midweek racing at Sandown with form and free tips, May 10

Midweek tips

BIG fields are the flavour of the day at Sandown this Wednesday where punters should enjoy some great value on offer.

The Ladbrokes Info Hub Handicap is one of the better betting fields as it includes some talented thoroughbreds capable of winning in higher grades.

Think Babe, Eckhart and the unbeaten Addison look like future Saturday winners and that’s just one of the eight top quality races on the Sandown card.

We have form and free tips for every race this Wednesday which starts with the Schweppes 3YO Handicap at 1pm.

Race 1 – Schweppes 3YO Handicap (1400m)

Diapason was a strong winner on debut at Sale where it defeated subsequent winner Golden Fusaiachi. The Chris Waller-trained four-year-old took some time getting to the races, but it was well-supported at $3 on debut and the mare by Shocking should naturally appreciate the rise in distance. Craig Newitt retains the ride and it should be tough to beat again.

Chloe’s Comet scored back-to-back wins earlier this campaign, but punters will be looking for a bounce back performance after running sixth last start. The Waterhouse/Bott-trained four-year-old drops in grade for this which will be a big help and it finished second on this track two starts back when running 1.75 lengths behind Single Note in rating 78 grade. That’s solid form and it only needs some luck from the wide draw.

Race 1 tip: Diapason to win at Bet365.com

Race 2 – Thoroughbred Club Handicap (1600m)

Dangle Lad has been knocking on the door with four consecutive placings. The country-trained gelding hasn’t been far away from some moderate types this season and it hasn’t finished outside the placings in five starts at this distance. Its best form comes on dry tracks so the conditions should suit and it could pay a good each way price with bookmakers.

Dalgety was superior in the wet track conditions last start and it could kick on with it now. The David Brideoake-trained gelding didn’t trouble the winners at its first two starts, but it scored by 3.25 lengths on the lakeside track last start and that is good form for this. The change in track conditions could be an issue, but the rise to the mile suits and another quality run looks on the cards.

Race 2 tip: Dalgety to win at CrownBet.com.au

Race 3 – Clanbrooke Racing Handicap (1000m)

The Dynamo is ready to show its best after battling fresh up at Caulfield. The Byron Cozamanis-trained gelding showed good form in its previous campaign which concluded with a narrow win over Gun Case at Sandown where it has won two of its three starts. The son of Churchill Downs is a five-time winner at this distance so it has natural speed and the barrier draw of two allows it to land on the speed.

Benny Dee has won both starts this campaign and although this is a fair rise in class, it’s tough to doubt its form. The John Sadler-trained gelding drops back in distance after contesting the 1200m at Ballarat where it won narrowly by a neck. Its biggest plus here is that it will carry only 52kg after the claim of Chris Caserta. It also gets the inside draw and it could be a value chance at odds.

Race 3 tip: The Dynamo to win at Ladbrokes.com.au

Race 4 – Toronado @ Swettenham Handicap (1300m)

Avenue Whisper comes into this on the back of a strong win at Bendigo. The Weir-trained four-year-old built nicely towards the win and it should have strengthened up nicely following that effort. The well-bred daughter of Street Cry has yet to run a bad race at this distance and it won’t need much luck to get clear running from the inside barrier. It handles all track conditions and it should be in the thick of the finish.

Moonlover didn’t quite justify its favouritism at Caulfield last start, but that came in a much higher class than this. The Matt Laurie-trained filly has run in races such as the Red Roses and the Twilight Glow, so running at midweek level should be suitable. It won in rating 64 grade two back where it put five lengths on its rivals and a repeat effort of that could be on the cards.

Race 4 tip: Moonlover to win at Sportsbet.com.au

Race 5 – Elaren Security Services Handicap (1300m)

Chateau Cheval looked a good thing beaten last start as it never got out into the clear. The Lindsay Park-trained mare has been the favourite at its last three starts where it has placed in all three, but it could have won them all with some luck. The daughter of High Chaparral has placed twice from two starts at this track and it looks well-placed to break the run of outs.

Barbie’s Boy was a 1.5-length winner at Sale before running 10th in the Caulfield Guineas behind Divine Prophet. The three-year-old has since run a placing over the mile at Pakenham, but the sprinting trip might be its best go for the meantime. It doesn’t have the ability to run against the best horses in Australia, but it’s worth its salt in midweek grade and the betting should steer punters in the right direction.

Race 5 tip: Chateau Cheval to win at Ladbrokes.com.au

Race 6 – 3YO Handicap R70 (1600m)

Think Babe is a talented colt from the Weir stables and it has some great form to recommend. The well-bred son of So You Think finished second in the Gold Reef at Caulfield last start when it finished only a half-length behind Sword Of Light. It won its maiden by eight lengths and with all things being equal it should have the talent to clean this field up. Drawing barrier 12 and getting 60kg in the weights is tough, but it has the class.

Addison hasn’t done anything wrong in two starts to date, winning them both for trainer Patrick Payne. The Jimmy Choux filly is bred to handle the rise in distance and it was strong to the line late at Ballarat last start. This isn’t an easy race to make it three-from-three, but it could sneak out to a good each way price and punters should see value.

Race 6 tip: Think Babe to win at CrownBet.com.au

Race 7 – Le Pine Funerals Handicap (1800m)

Shintaro is a five-time winner which comes into this off an impressive result last start. The Jane Baker-trained five-year-old scored by 4.25 lengths at Terang and although that came on a wet track, it has won four times on a good surface and it should enjoy stepping up over more distance. This is a wide open field, but punters could find value with this runner.

Arrow In The Sand is a former New Zealand runner for the Logan/Gibbs team which is now in the hands of Cindy Alderson. The six-year-old won only three from 28 starts over the Tasman, but it was always better than that and it was taking on some quality opposition. It has run in races such as the Avondale Cup, which has been taken out by some quality NZ stayers and it should find its mark on the Australian midweek scene.

Race 7 tip: Shintaro to place at Bet365.com

Race 8 – Thebigscreencompany Handicap R70 (1600m)

Royal Blue has been given a wide draw of 14, but it’s coming off consecutive wins and one of those came on this track. The Brooke Schreuder-trained mare won by just under a length on this track in February and it should get better with the more distance it gets. This is another wide open field and it should be paying close to double figures in the market.

Tintaglia is a former winner when fresh up and despite wanting further than the mile, it has placed twice at this distance. The Archie Alexander-trained five-year-old looked good without showing too much last preparation and it brings a fair amount of quality experience into this race. If Ethan Brown lobs it into a good position, his 3kg claim could come into good effect.

Race 8 tip: Royal Blue to place at CrownBet.com.au
