Midweek quaddie form and tips for Wednesday June 8, 2016

quaddie of the week

SUNNY Queensland has been anything but that this past week, but we’re hoping the conditions stay fine for the Wednesday quaddie at Doomben.

The quaddie features big fields with the $100,000 Listed Lightning Handicap the main draw card of the day. Transferred from Eagle Farm’s ill-fated Oaks Day on Saturday, the Lightning features a big field of sprinters which promises to be an action-packed race.

Doomben has had plenty of racing on the track, but we are still expecting the ground to be rain-affected. This won’t suit every runner, but seeing as it’s June, trainers won’t be wishing for firm tracks.

It all kicks off at 2:53pm with the Gallopers Sports Club Rating 70 which features a full field of 18 runners which can be bet on at Sportsbet.com.au.

Leg 1 – Gallopers Sports Club Rating 70 (1110m)

Paul Duncan lines up former New Zealand runner Johnhro which is fresh up after six months off the track. The four-year-old is twice a winner fresh and two of its three career wins have come on a slow track. This distance might be a touch short to show its best, but it has a winning chance.

Moss Harry went close at Ipswich last start and conditions aren’t overly different for this. The five-year-old has had two starts at Doomben for a win and a placing and it has never finished worse than third on a rain-affected track. The gelding by Mossman is bred for the wet and top Queensland jockey Damian Browne takes the ride. Looks tough to beat.

We have to include Misery based on its two starts to date. The three-year-old won on debut by 3.5 lengths and it followed that up with another 1.5-length win at the Sunshine Coast. It gets a very valuable 3kg off its back and it should be at a nice each way price.

Leg 1 tips: 2, 10, 16

Leg 2 – Listed Lightning Handicap (1050m)

Felines has a great fresh record of four starts for two wins and two placings. The Kris Lees-trained mare also has four soft-track wins to its name so the conditions won’t worry it and it is still paying a good win price. It was only narrowly run down in the Challenge Stakes behind English last start and that form will stack up nicely for this.

Hardline has been a tough horse to follow with numerous injury problems, but it’s a classy horse when it is right. The Liam Birchley-trained gelding won the Karaka Million in 2015 before winning back-to-back races later that year. It hasn’t seen the track since October of last year, but it is undefeated fresh up and Birchley wouldn’t line it up here without giving it a chance of winning.

Beau Rada is a seven-time winner which handles all track conditions and it was finishing off strongly last start at Flemington. The son of Hard Spun was only 1.35 lengths behind Supido and its form prior included strong efforts behind Bullpit and Sheidel. We wouldn’t leave it out from the good barrier draw.

Leg 3 – Canadian Club C3 Handicap (1350m)

Little Miss Rocker is having its first start at Doomben, but its overall record is strong. The Toby Edmonds-trained mare has a good record in the wet and at this distance. Its most recent run came at at Gold Coast when finishing second behind former Sydney-based runner Murder Of Crows. It gets a handy 3kg claim which brings it right into contention.

Catenaccio is a progressive filly for top trainer Robert Heathcote and there is confidence in the camp. It rises up in grade after finishing third in Class 2 grade last start, but Jim Byrne takes the ride which should instill plenty of confidence for punters. Watch for any late market moves and include it in the quaddie.

Gerald Ryan lines up Forbidden Kisses which is looking for something a touch easier. The four-year-old had solid form in Sydney with a win coming on the Beaumont track, but competing at this level in Queensland should be right up its alley. It will have to carry 58kg, but it’s a must include here.

Leg 3 tips: 1, 2, 10

Leg 4 – Moet & Chandon Chairman’s Club C3 (1350m)

I Am The Sculptor is a stand out in this field having made good late ground last start. The Toby Edmonds-trained gelding is a three-time winner from nine starts and two of those wins have come at this distance. It raced in class 5 grade two back when it finished a narrow second and despite the wide draw, it looms as the main winning chance.

Martial Art should be included as a saver bet. The three-year-old has won two from nine starts and it has taken on some strong company to date. It ran a big race for fifth at Sunshine Coast three back and although it hasn’t been able to win for awhile, it goes well fresh up and is a danger to our top pick.

Leg 4 tips: 2, 8
