Michelle Payne taken to hospital after fall at Mildura

2015 MELBOURNE Cup-winning jockey Michelle Payne was taken to hospital via ambulance after a fall at the Mildura races today.

Riding Dutch Courage, the horsed trained by her brother Patrick, Michelle was thrown from her ride after the mare was reported to have clipped the heels of a rival runner.

Payne was fully conscious after her fall, but complained about abdominal pain, so was taken to hospital.

Payne’s mount was near the back of the field when the incident happened in the seventh race.

The incident follows a nasty five-horse fall at Taree today that saw four jockeys taken to hospital.

Earlier in the day Michelle was enjoying a return to form, riding two winners for her brother.
