Michael Walker in first win after injury

Jockey Michael Walker has landed his first winner following a stint on the sidelines with a head injury.

Walker guided the Lindsay Park-trained Time Commands to a six-length win at Geelong on Tuesday.

He brought a double aboard the David Hayes and Tom Dabernig-trained stablemate Sohool.

Returning to race riding in March following an extended break after hip surgery, Walker last month had an accident at home and suffered bleeding on the brain.

He made his return at Flemington on Saturday where he had five rides, collecting two placings.

Walker said he was still regaining fitness and was two weeks away from being at his best.

“I’ve had a look at myself in the mirror and a couple of the boys have given me some stick,” Walker told racing.com.

“I’m still pretty soft and need to do some more gym work.”

Walker said trackwork was only part of his regime to regaining full fitness.

Because of his hip injury he said he was unable to run and he relies on a rowing machine and riding a bike to improve his fitness base.
