Medaille ready to step to Saturday grade

Medaille may have taken her time breaking through, but a strong midweek win has foreshadowed her potential to rise to Saturday grade.

The Godolphin filly lived up to her $3 favouritism to win by 1-3/4 lengths from Collage ($9) with Blanco Cara ($16) third.

Assistant trainer Darren Beadman said Medaille would get a lot out of her victory in Wednesday’s 1400-metre Vinery Plate at Warwick Farm after narrow misses at her past few starts.

“She hit the crossbar the other day and has been very close in the last couple of starts,” Beadman said.

“She has trained on well and presented really well today.”

Medaille was second at Warwick Farm during the October 3 public holiday meeting, her first start since finishing third at Canterbury in August.

Beadman said Medaille should handle the step up to 1600m.

“Winning form is good form, we will probably have to step up in grade a little bit more now,” he said.

“It wasn’t an overly competitive race today but a mile doesn’t look out of place for her.”

Jockey Tim Clark said the next stage would be getting Medaille to a Saturday race.

“She has taken a little while to break through but she is on board at this time of year at the back of the carnival, to progress to a Saturday,” Clark said.
