Matamata full form & tips for Friday, January 12

MATAMATA is the host for New Zealand racing this Friday and we’re hoping the event goes forward after a number of cancellations across the Tasman.

Here’s hoping the meet goes forward and punters looking to follow our tips win themselves some cash.

Race 1 – Maiden (1600m)

Flying Trapeze will need some luck from out wide but it has the ability to take this race out. The horse only just missed out at Arawa Park on December 27 and if it gets a safe passage into the race from gate ten it can break through at the 11th time of asking.

Race 1 tip: Flying Trapeze to win at Sportsbet

Race 2 – Maiden (1600m)

Paint The Town has decent lead-up form to this race and we believe it can win, even from barrier 11. The horse is carrying a rock bottom weight and the filly Darci Brahma is more than capable of getting the job done at the third time of asking.

Race 2 tip: Paint The Town to win at Neds

Race 3 – Maiden (1400m)

Smart Thinking has placed in exactly half its races to date and from a favourable gate it has the ability to break through at the fifth attempt. The daughter of O’reilly has plenty of gate speed and will be hard to hold out if it settles in transit.

Race 3 tip: Smart Thinking to win at Ladbrokes

Race 4 – Maiden (1100m)

In a difficult to predict maiden event Wisdom Patch’s last-start second stands out. The horse finished second behind She’s A Thief on December 16 and we believe that bodes well for a strong run.

Race 4 tip: Wisdom Patch to win at Sportsbet

Race 5 – Maiden (1200m)

Matuzalem will look to go forward and take it out from the front. This local hope has been making headway every start this preparation, as fourth, third and second placings would attest to across the last three. It’ll take some luck from wide but this horse is better than the maiden grade.

Race 6 – Maiden (1100m)

Pink Graffiti ran well on debut at Arawa Park on December 27 and we think it will take a lot from that experience. In a field of first-starters we think it has the capability to win, despite the wide draw.

Race 6 tip: Pink Graffiti to win at Crownbet

Race 7 – Benchmark 65 (1400m)

[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1177764_07]

Orphea has placed in back-to-back events, last-start at a higher grading, which suggests to us it can step up at BM65 level. It’s the horse’s debut at Matamata, but the form suggests that will be irrelevant.

Race 7 tip: Orphea to win at Crownbet

Race 8 – Maiden (2000m)

Kane comes into this race low in the weights and after the claim it comes in even better. While the wide draw is a concern, we are backing the 16 start runner to breakthrough in the penultimate event.

Race 8 tip: Kane to win at Crownbet

Race 9 – Benchmark 65 (2000m)

In a tricky final event Doubtless Princess stands out to us. In a higher grade last time out the here finished within a length of the winner. The horse jumps 4kg in weight but the last-start performance suggests it can bounce back here.

Race 9 tip: Doubtless Princess to win at Crownbet
