MARKET MOVERS REPORT – ROSEHILL

Race 1: Siege Of Quebec ($2.40), from Calculated and Condor
The market installed Chris Waller runner Calculated as the early favourite, but after opening as the $3.30 second favourite, Bott and Waterhouse-trained galloper Siege Of Quebec was crunched into favoritism before the jump. Punters were prepared to take on Calculated in the market as it drifted to $2.70.

Race 2: Insensata ($3.60), from Girl Sunday and Labdien
Last-start winner Insensata opened as the favourite for the second race of the day and maintained its solid quote throughout the day. Punters came hard for Girl Sunday, which firmed from $5.50 to $3.70, but unfortunately for investors the plunge did not land.

Race 3: Buddy Honest ($11), from Star Aspiration and Our Finvarra
Buddy Honest was one of the slight outsiders in the market at the $8 quote, and punters were keen to oppose the Aleacia Bennett runner as it drifted to double figures. The horse had other ideas though as it powered to the line from the front to hold out Star Aspiration.

Race 4: Vaucluse Bay ($15), from Arbeitsam and Emperor’s Way
In an interesting turn of events, Vaucluse Bay opened at $15 in the market, was subsequently moved into $11 at the opening fluctuation and did not receive any action in the market. Arbeitsam firmed from its opening $4.40 into $3.40 but could not land the strong push for punters.

Race 5: Pick Me Up ($7), from Mana and Clear The Beach
In a fairly even betting market Pick Me Up stayed close to its closing quote in the fifth race on the card. Both the second and third place getters were big drifters in the market.

Race 6: Washington Heights ($7), from Sir Plush and Inz’n’out
One of the biggest plunges of the day came for highly credentialed runner Sir Plush, which was crunched in from $3 into $2.05. The go on the runner did not come off however, as Washington Heights delivered. Inz’n’out defied a heavy drift from $15 to $21 in the market to round out the placings.

Race 7: Slightly Sweet ($21), from Man Of His Word and Elle Lou
It was a blood bath for punters in the third last race on the card as Slightly Sweet overcame a $5 drift in the market to salute at the $21 quote. Man Of His Word and Elle Lou paid $18 and $17 respectively to add additional pain to those who elected to go after the place market.

Race 8: Collateral ($5.50), from The Gavel and Life O’Brien
HorseBetting.com.au readers were happy that Collateral could overcome the slight drift to salute for us in the penultimate race at Rosehill. The punters came hard for The Gavel, which came in from $19 to settle at $12 to round out the quinella placings.

Race 9: Hunter Jack ($34), from Queen Misty and It’s So Obvious
It was a horror show for punters in the final race on the card as Hunter Jack drifted from $26 to $34, but still had enough in the bank to hold out Queen Misty and It’s So Obvious. Key market elects Flow ($3.40) and Reneged ($3.80) did not fire a shot for favourite backers.

Horse to follow from Rosehill: Buddy Honest
It was an eye-catching win from the front early on in the card which was the horse’s second win from five starts, where it has finished outside the first four in that period. Do not be surprised if it is now put out for a spring or summer preparation.

MARKET MOVERS REPORT – CAULFIELD

Race 1: Orient Line ($5.50), from Mr Optimistic and Dane Thunder
Those looking to oppose the short-priced favourite in the opening race were rewarded early at Caulfield as second favourite Orient Line won for Craig Williams. Despite staying relatively steady in the market, it was the only elect punters were prepared to back against Data Point.

Race 2: I Did It Again ($4.60), from Bandipur and Aljawzaa
One of the biggest moves of the day paid off punters in the second race on the card after I Did It Again was hammered in the market from $9 into $4.60, making it the clear second favourite behind Bandipur. The two-year-old debutante was a brilliant winner and is the horse to follow out of the meet.

Race 3: Moonlite’s Choice ($2.80), from Hot Dipped and If Not Now When
Moonlite’s Choice opened as the $5 favourite in the market and was subsequently crunched into $2.80. The good thing of the day for many punters paid off nicely, but many investors will be wishing they took the early fixed odds on the Darren Weir trained runner.

Race 4: Windbern ($21), from Snipfit and Shadow Price
In without question the messiest race of the day, Windbern got the job done at the huge price of $21 after opening at $14. The short-priced favourite Kiwia was unsighted in the run after getting blocked at every turn and could not justify the $2.20 price tag.

Race 5: Portion Control ($9), from Show A Star and Bling Dynasty
A relatively quiet race in terms of fluctuations here as Portion Control timed its run perfectly to salute.

Race 6: Nikitas ($8), from Revolving Door and My Paisann
Nikitas was one of the key players in the opening leg of the Caulfield quaddie, but the horse did see a slight drift from $6 to $8. The three-year-old colt defied the slight drift to win in fantastic fashion ahead of Revolving Door, which closed as the $3.40 favourite after opening at $5.

Race 7: Supido ($1.70), from Daytona Grey and Murt The Flirt
Not much action in the market in the seventh as the hot-pot favourite and everyone’s stand out leg Supido saluted in consummate ease.

Race 8: Forgeress ($9), from Sullivan Bay and Beatniks
A solid go on Sullivan Bay from $5.50 to $2.75 failed to pay off for punters who was nailed by outsider Forgeress ($9) which was hammered from $19.

Race 9: Schism ($2.50), from Onerous and Airalign
Schism is one of the in-form runners of the Australian winter and the Ciaron Maher runner kept its sensational run of winning going. The horse firmed slightly in the market after opening at $3.25.

Horse to follow from Caulfield: Portion Control
Portion Control won in great fashion after doing it tough at stages on Saturday, and probably won before connections expected this preparation. It all points towards a strong preparation for the Hayes and Daberning runner.

MARKET MOVERS REPORT – SUNSHINE COAST

Race 1: Tumbler ($2.15), from Irish Constabulary and Live Fast
One of the better bets of the day nearly came unstuck early for punters on the coast, but Tumbler powered to the line strongly after getting out extremely late to justify the short odds.

Race 2: Sagamama ($4.80), from Muddy Rope and Our Jamaica
In an very even betting market there weren’t too many heavy fluctuations but three of the primary elects in the market fought it out for the prize. A huge plunge on Flamin’ Mogul ($51 to $17) did not eventuate to anything of note.

Race 3: Aomen ($34), from Spur Le Jouer and Allknight Saint
There was plenty of pain for punters in the third race on the card as Aomen saluted at huge odds. Key market elect Bushy was not sighted in the run and failed to justify the shift from $4.40 to $3.

Race 4: Bring It Home Pop ($2), from Shogun Sun and Saxton Rock
Punters got one straight back in the fourth race on the card after Bring It Home Pop saluted as an even money favourite after opening as a $6 favourite. Punters did not look beyond the winner here as no other horses made any significant moves.

Race 5: Monteux ($15), from Moonlight Dancer and Gouldain
The market for the fifth race was thrown into disarray after Steamin’ ($2.80) and Abohar ($3.80) were scratched. Monteux opened at $19, but came in slightly to $15 at the jump following the removal of the two main elects.

Race 6: Stella Ombra ($3.20), from Oradonna and Precision Strike
Not much market action in the sixth race as favourite Stella Ombra saluted at close to the odds it the horse opened at.

Race 7: Araldo Junior ($10), from My Diamantine and Pop ‘n’ Scotch
Alrado Junior won the feature of the day after drifting from $7.50 to $10 prior to the jump. My Diamantine firmed hugely in the market to jump as the $2.60 favourite but it failed to win.

Race 8: Publishing Power ($5.50), from Mishani El Lobo and Oink
Publishing Power delivered a great sight for punters who backed the runner in from $11 into $5.50. Oink jumped as the $4 favourite after slightly firming in the market but could only manage third.

Race 9: Miss Dubois ($15), from Natural Black and Deitch
Heartbreak for punters in the last as Miss Dubios defied a huge drift from $8.50 out to the double figure closing price. Any punter that backed Deitch to place would have been significantly rewarded in the best place market given it blew out from $16 to $26 prior to the jump.

Horse to follow from Sunshine Coast: Araldo Junior
It was hard not to be blown away by the fantastic win by German import Araldo Junior following its wonderful Queensland Cup win. The horse was caught in traffic but still managed to forge a path through the field to win. The horse looks set for a long Australian stay and we would not be surprised to see it take out some group races along the way.
