Horse Betting 2020 Group 1 Manikato Stakes Betting Preview

The 1 million dollar Ladbrokes Manikato Stakes will be run and won for another year at The Valley on Friday night 23rd October 2020 over 1200m at Weight For Age conditions. The track is currently rated a good 4 on Friday morning, but heavy rain is forecast which will see downgrades of the track throughout the course of the afternoon. Trekking is the current favourite, shading Moir Stakes winner Pippie and Schillaci Stakes winner Dirty Work.

2020 Manikato Stakes Speed Map

As is always the case with these types of races, there will be speed to burn early, with Pippie, Diamond Effort, Hey Doc, Bella Vella and Splintex all likely to settle right on the bunny. Dirty Work won’t be too far away, while Trekking and Brooklyn Hustle will be out the back and finishing strongly.

Manikato Stakes Horses

Jockey: John Allen | Trainer: James Cummings | Barrier: 7 | Weight: 58.5kg1. Trekking $3.80 with Sportsbet

On the seven day back up after running fourth in The Everest behind Classique Legend. His first up run behind Pippie in the Moir Stakes was super and he has handled the back up before so he should go well. Barrier 7 will suit, as he can let the ran pan out in front of him and be savaging the line late.

Jockey: Luke Currie | Trainer: Tony & Calvin McEvoy | Barrier: 6 | Weight: 58.5kg2. Hey Doc $12.00 with Sportsbet

He won this race three years ago and has only been lightly raced since. From barrier six, he will be right thereabouts in the run. He was plain first up in the Moir,so he will have to improve to beat them home here. He does fly around The Valley though.

Jockey: Craig Williams | Trainer: James Cummings | Barrier: 5 | Weight: 58.5kg3. Kementari $16.00 with Sportsbet

Enigmatic gelding, Kementari impressed us first up in the Gilgai when it was clear that fitness just stopped him late when fourth beaten under a length. This will be his first full prep since returning after a failed stud career, and he is in a stable that conditions their horses to peak on grand final day. The blinkers go back on for the first time since his placed effort in this race two years ago, so we expect him to be right there.

Jockey: Kerrin McEvoy | Trainer: Mark Newnham | Barrier: 9 | Weight: 58.5kg4. Splintex $26.00 with Sportsbet

Sydney galloper who was well supported last start in the Schillaci but failed when attempting to lead throughout to run fifth. He was beaten 2L by Classique Legend two back and finished alongside Bivouac which has proved to be fantastic form since. He’ll be up on speed but we think he will be found out late.

Jockey: Damien Oliver | Trainer: Danny O’Brien | Barrier: 11 | Weight: 58.5kg5. Order Of Command $61.00 with Sportsbet

Oliver and O’Brien combine with outsider of the field here in Order of Command. He is a very good sprinter on his day and the wet track will be a bonus, but he looks severely outclassed here given he hasn’t won beyond Listed level and his form leading into this has been plain. He’ll likely be caught out in the cheap seats and struggle in this.

Jockey: William Pike | Trainer: Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes | Barrier: 3 | Weight: 58.5kg6. Dirty Work $6.50 with Sportsbet

Dirty Work couldn’t have been more impressive in winning the Schillaci at Caulfield last start beating a number of his main rivals here. William Pike is flying at the moment and he stays aboard which is a positive. From barrier three, they’ll do very little work in behind the pace and be flying late. He has never placed from three starts at 1200m which is a slight concern though.

Jockey: James McDonald | Trainer: Anthony & Sam Freedman | Barrier: 4 | Weight: 56.5kg7. Lyre $19.00 with Sportsbet

Lyre has offered plenty in her career given she is a Blue Diamond winner, but she just keeps knocking on the door without entering the building; finishing in the top four in seven of her last eight starts without winning. James McDonald is a great booking and they should get all the favours from barrier four. While we don’t think she will be winning; she has to be included in multiples.

Jockey: Damian Lane | Trainer: John & Chris Meagher | Barrier: 1 | Weight: 56.5kg8. Pippie $6.00 with Sportsbet

The Moir Stakes winner comes into this after a four week freshen up which will suit given her fresh record. Barrier one will see her jump and lead under Damien Lane doing no work at all. While she is a two time winner at 1200m, her best work usually comes over 1000m and 1100m, with the 1200m seeing her knock up late. Although, around The Valley can be slightly different. $6.00 seems the right price.

Jockey: Jamie Kah | Trainer: Will Clarken | Barrier: 10 | Weight: 56.5kg9. Bella Vella $12.00 with Sportsbet

A Valley specialist is South Australian mare, Bella Vella. She has never missed the place at this track and comes off a tough third in the Moir Stakes behind Pippie and Trekking which is great form and we get a great price considering. From the wide alley, Jamie Kah will have to work early on a horse who needs it all her own way to be competitive at 1200m.

Jockey: Ben Melham | Trainer: Clinton McDonald | Barrier: 2 | Weight: 56.5kg10. Diamond Effort $7.50 with Sportsbet

Ben Melham reunites with Diamond Effort here after hopping off in the Schillaci Stakes when beaten in a photo finish. The start before that saw her 2L off Pippie in the Moir when she didn’t have a lot of luck in the run. If the rain comes, it will be a huge advantage for a horse who will get a great run in transit and be making a strong case late.

Jockey: Mark Zahra | Trainer: Jason Warren & Dean Krongold | Barrier: 8 | Weight: 56.5kg11. Brooklyn Hustle $11.00 with Sportsbet

Jason Warren’s flashy chestnut mare was the eye-catcher out of the Moir, railing hard to run fourth. Both of her wins have come at this track and she looks to be ready to win second up out to 1200m. she has won on the soft going before which will be advantageous here and with plenty of speed up front, she will be the one finishing the strongest from the back. Solid each-way claims.

2020 Manikato Stakes Horse Betting Tips

We are siding with Brooklyn Hustle in this after we black-booked her out of the Moir Stakes. She should get a great run out the back and be charging late. Diamond Effort should get a great run in transit and will be right thereabouts, while Kementari presents value in the race and if he brings his best, he could blow them away.
