Maher Weighs Up Options For Fake Love

Some rest and recreation at the Gold Coast during summer works wonders for humans and co-trainer Ciaron Maher suspects it will do the same for Fake Love in her build up to the Magic Millions.

Fake Love rocketed into Magic Millions contention when she scored an easy win at her first start in the Debutant Stakes (1000m) at Caulfield in October.

The filly drifted to the fourth line of betting at $11 for the Millions after finishing runner-up to Sweet Dolly in the Calaway Gal Stakes at Eagle Farm on December 12.

“She’s probably our top seed for the Millions and she’ll be well acclimatised by the time she gets there,” Maher said.

“She’ll probably just spend a bit of time down the beach sunning herself and hopefully she’s spot on and ready to go for the big day.”

The filly has been entered for two-year-old races in Sydney and Brisbane on Boxing Day as a precaution in case Maher feels she needs another run before the $2 million Magic Millions (1200m) at the Gold Coast on January 16.

“I’ll see what the best option is for her but the Magic Millions is her grand final,” Maher said.

“If we think she needs another run we might give it to her but I’m comfortable where she’s at and I’d be happy to go straight in.”

Maher believes Fake Love’s racing pattern is well suited to the Gold Coast circuit.

“She’s very neat, very well muscled, not the biggest you’d have to say but very well suited to the Gold Coast,” he said.

“She’ll be able to rail like a greyhound. She’s fit and ready to go.”

The Maher-Eustace training partnership is aiming Amish Boy at the $2 million Magic Millions Guineas (1400m) after he resumes at Randwick on Saturday.

“He’ll kick off over 1200 metres then make his way up to Queensland,” Maher said.

“The 1400 metres of the Guineas should be right in his wheelhouse.”

Amish Boy is currently at $18 for the Magic Millions Guineas with stablemate Away Game on the second line of betting at $6 with TAB fixed odds.
