Mackay horse racing tips

A big 10-race card heads to the Sugar City on Tuesday for what will be a strong form meeting heading into next week’s Mackay Cup Day. The track is rated a Good 4, with the rail out 3m for the entire circumference. Race 1 is scheduled for 11:25am AEST, with Race 7 kicking off our quaddie legs at 3:05pm.

Tuesday racing tips for Mackay

Best Bet
Race 8 – Coastal Boy @ $2.25

Darryl Hansen is on his annual rampage of the state’s north after winning with Doctor Zous in the Rockhampton Newmarket on Friday. He takes three horses to Mackay on Tuesday and has a great winning chance with his talented gelding Coastal Boy. The four-year-old son of Hinchinbrook was a winner at Mackay this time last year and looks beautifully placed tomorrow in the 1100m BM75 race. Drawn in gate six under Ryan Wiggins, he should find the front and be far too good considering he is a four-time winner at the Sunshine Coast and gets in with just 55kg. Expect it to be a good day for Hansen, who has another key runner we are keen on.

Next Best
Race 9 – Shiranda @ $3.10

Coming off a third in the Rockhampton Cup on Friday, John Manzelmann’s four-year-old looks to be perfectly placed at 1800m in what we would assume will be his last run before next Friday’s Mackay Cup. In the Rocky Cup, he hit the line very nicely under Elyce Smith despite drawing a wide gate. The rise to 1800m will be beneficial for the gelding, as he races very well at 1800m (6:2-1-2). The wide gate is again a slight concern, but we can expect to see Smith find a positive spot again and come home strong.

Best Value
Race 3 – Better Than Gold @ $5

Darryl Hansen’s speedy three-year-old filly sits on the fourth line of betting in the 1050m dash for Class 3 gallopers on Tuesday and is drawn perfectly under Chris Whiteley. From barrier one, the Better Than Ready filly will kick up, find the front and be hard to reel in with just 56kg on her back. Her two career wins both came at Kilcoy, which is a similar style of track to Mackay, so she should feel very comfortable in the run. The blinkers come off for the first time with the tongue tie going on, which is a positive move. She was out as far as $7 on Monday but could be paying half that by the time she jumps. We also want to give a small mention to Celebration Day, which we blackbooked after his last-start second. The five-year-old gelding will be back in the run, but he could run a bold race at a big price if there is plenty of speed on.
