2020 Linlithgow Stakes betting preview
The Group 2 Linlithgow Stakes (run as the TAB Stakes since 2018) has attracted a field of 10 to compete over 1200m for the $300,000 prize pool. Octane has opened a $2.70 favourite and will be looking to add to her win down the Flemington straight in the winter. The Linlithgow Stakes will jump at 1pm AEDT on Derby Day.
The formidable duo of Phillip Stokes and Jamie Kah team up with the favourite, who was beaten a neck in the Group 2 Schillaci Stakes. He chased home Dirty Work and Diamond Effort in that race, both of whom have bigger tasks ahead this spring. He was a smart winner down the Flemington straight in the winter over 1000m and will benefit from that experience. Off a three-week freshen up, the 5YO gelding will settle towards the back of the field but has an electric turn of foot and will prove hard to hold out in the concluding stages.
Richard and Chantelle Jolly saddle up the defending champion, who went down by a head in a driving finish in the Gilgai Stakes behind the handy duo of Zoutori and Dollar For Dollar. The slight query is that he has not won a race since Derby Day last year, but he will be up on pace throughout and should be right in the finish again.
Greg Eurell and Kerrin McEvoy team up with a resuming 6YO gelding who is near bombproof when first up, striking at 75%. He is a proven Flemington specialist, winning on three occasions from six starts, and maps to lead the field up. McEvoy has had success on this guy before and will look to build on their impressive record.
