Lindsay Park on verge of Melbourne century

The Lindsay Park team will have to wait at least a few more days to notch a milestone of 100 metropolitan winners for the season in Melbourne.

Co-trainers David and Ben Hayes and Tom Dabernig went into Wednesday’s Sandown meeting sitting on 98 Melbourne city winners for the season.

They had five runners at the meeting and moved to 99 after the first-up victory of three-year-old Invictum Domina in the Heritage Finance Handicap (1200m).

The stable will be well-represented at Saturday’s Flemington meeting with runners in eight of the nine races.

Reigning premier trainer Darren Weir has already passed a century this season but the feat is rare.

David Hayes reached the century during his premiership-winning season in 2006-07 when he prepared 103 metropolitan winners in Victoria.

Lee Freedman, Peter Moody and Weir are the only others to reach 100.

Weir, who also had one winner at Sandown, leads this season’s Melbourne premiership on 118, having broken a century for the first time last season when he finished with 106.

Weir has already passed the previous record of 115 set by Freedman in 2005-06.
