Les Ross chases QTIS two-year-old title

Trainer Les Ross has had contrasting fortune with barriers as he aims to ensure he is this season’s leading QTIS two-year-old trainer at Doomben.

The QTIS bonus system is placed on select two and three-year-old races for horses bred in the state.

The races are invariably the strongest on programs throughout the state and it is no different on Saturday.

Ross has Mishani Fraudster in the Welcome Back To BRC QTIS 2Y0 Colts & Geldings Handicap (1200m) plus Hanora Field and Patty’s Fortune in the Quincy QTIS 2Y0 Fillies Handicap.

He currently leads the QTIS 2YO premiership with his youngsters earning just under $250,000 in bonus payments.

Ross leads the Tony and Maddy Sears stable who were boosted by two wins last weekend.

However, a win in either race should ensure Ross finishes first with the Sears camp not having a runner at Doomben.

Mishani Fraudster drew barrier one while Hanora Field and Patty’s Fortune drew 11 and nine respectively.

“There are a couple of promising fillies in that division and mine both drew off the track,” Ross said.

“But Hanora Field has won four races and Jackson Murphy will claim 2kg. Patty’s Fortune also drew wide but she is a Doomben winner.”

Ross said Mishani Fraudster also had a promising second to top galloper Rothfire, while forecast rain would help his cause.
