Lack of communication reason for Freedman sacking

OWNER of Group 1 BTC Cup-winner Malaguerra, Bruno Micalizzi, has given his explanation as to why he removed his horse from the Freedman stables.

In a shock move earlier this week, the racing public was in a state of confusion as to why Malaguerra has been removed from the Lee and Anthony Freedman stables, but Micalizzi has cited poor communication as the primary reason.

Micalizzi stated he had phoned Lee Freedman on multiple occasions without those calls being returned.

“I sent him messages relating to other things and I’d never get an answer,” Micalizzi said.

“Previously I’ve tried to call him. I didn’t get a reply and in the finish it became very difficult so I sent the office an email,” he said in reference to Freedman’s sacking.

Malaguerra was a stable star for the Freedmans having won nine from 15 including the BTC Cup at Doomben, but it will now do its future racing with Peter Gelagotis at Moe.

“The group 1 race win was enormous and I’ve been very happy with the way they’ve looked after the horses,” Micalizzi said.

“I’ve been down there numerous times and I’m impressed with what they’ve got and think it’s most suited for Malaguerra. I like their facilities and their boutique-style training camp.

“In the finish, it’s the owners choice. I own the horse outright, I pay the bills and I decided to leave him.”

Micalizzi also has three-year-old filly Grand Gesture with the Gelagotis stable which won the Group 1 Underwood Stakes in 2015 with stable star Mourinho.
