Knight To Behold in Derby Trial upset

Knight To Behold
Knight To Behold is on track for the Derby after winning the Trial at Lingfield.

Knight To Behold has put himself in the frame for Classic glory at Epsom with a dominant win over odds-on favourite Kew Gardens in the Lingfield Derby Trial.

Richard Kingscote took the Harry Dunlop-trained colt straight to the front and he had an uncontested lead.

Knight To Behold was at least six lengths clear entering the straight and, hard as Ryan Moore tried to close the gap on the well-backed Aidan O’Brien-trained Kew Gardens (8-11), the 7-1 shot was still 3-1/4 lengths at the line.

The winner is now available at odds of around 16-1 about winning the Derby at Epsom on June 2.

“He looks a really exciting sort,” Dunlop said.

“He is bred to stay – that is the key factor. He was a horse that was always going to improve and we’ve loved him from day one. He is a wonderful mover.

“I think, and hope, he’ll go to Epsom.

“I was there when Erhaab won for Dad (John Dunlop) and I was only two when Shirley Heights won.

“Seeing Ed (Dunlop, brother) win the Oaks with Ouija Board it is just an incredible place. It is amazing and I’ve got to pinch myself.”
